Brazilian Subsidiary Cosmotec Proves to Be a Key Ingredient
in Formulating Success
Expanding on the global growth goals of its subsidiary Presperse,
a cosmetic ingredients distributor and formulator in the U.S., SC in
the Americas entered the cosmetics business in the South American
market in 2013 by establishing a joint venture with Brazilian cosmetic
ingredient distributing company, Cosmotec.
This well established Brazilian company sells the ingredients with formulation service to major cosmetic
manufacturers in Brazil. Sumitomo's objective is to expand and maximize the distribution capability into
the Americas region by executing the best integration and pursuing the best business synergy between
Presperse and Cosmotec. Additionally, the goals include strengthening the product portfolio, the
technology and other services for customers as well as suppliers.
Brazilian Origins
In 1987, Luciano Fagliari and Marly Yajima Fagliari, founded Cosmotec as a business centering on
cosmetic ingredient distribution services in Brazil. Cosmotec sells ingredients, as well as developed
formulas, to major cosmetic manufacturers in Brazil, and is also recognized by its practices
of social and environmental responsibility. Cosmotec's motto is "When inspiration
meets performance," meaning it stands out for its ability to anticipate consumer
needs thanks to management's monitoring of trends in the cosmetic market,
and bringing innovative ingredients and technologies to that market.
To satisfy the desires of its clients, Cosmotec offers a complete and
tailor-made package of solutions, from primary insights to the final
formulation. With a strong reputation in the Brazilian cosmetic market,
Cosmotec gains from its new alliance with Sumitomo Corporation,
and is looking to create a strong cosmetic group globally.

The plan is to optimize one's presence in the Brazilian market, a market
that keeps growing. Hence, many global players are trying aggressively
to invest in this market, along with Brazil's local cosmetic players,
such as Natura, Boticario, etc., who are experiencing rapid yet organic
growth. Cosmotec is the leading distributor in Brazil, and internal business
integration between the Cosmotec and Presperse management teams has
created a winning formula for collaboration.
Cosmotec is already a well established organization with the capabilities to provide
high level services to cosmetic companies in Brazil. With Sumitomo's support, the plan
is to accelerate the globalization of the business, while utilizing best practices learned
from the coordination of work processes between Presperse and Cosmotec.
