Cosmotec Celebrates
30 Years in the
Cosmetics World

t's impressive to see what cosmetic ingredients distributor and SC Group Company Cosmotec
(full name Cosmotec International Especialidades Cosmeticas LTDA) has achieved in the three
decades since it was founded. Cosmotec's founders, Marly and Luciano Fagliari, have been
influential drivers in the evolution of the Brazilian cosmetic market since 1987. Through their
practice of promoting technology transfer between the world's leading ingredients manufacturers
and the local marketplace, they've enabled the introduction of new actives, innovative formulations
with different textures, and high-level technical support. Above all, they've remained consistent
in their philosophy of building and maintaining partnerships and long term relationships
based upon mutual respect, ethics, and the dedicated hard work of their team.
On May 18th, 2017, Cosmotec staff, long-time
customers and supplier partners, family and friends
gathered at Villa Verico in Sao Paulo, Brazil to celebrate the Company's 30th Anniversary. In true Cosmotec fashion, the party was a feast for the senses:
bringing together vibrant colors, festive music and
great food and drink to the delight of everyone in
attendance. Moreover, it was the spirit and camaraderie of the Cosmotec team that lit up the room;
a true testament to 30 years of a company culture
rooted in hard work and endearing relationships.
From a higher level, Cosmotec serves an extremely
important role as one of Sumitomo Corporation's
group companies, as indicated by Shohei Shibukawa,
President and COO of Cosmotec.
"The cosmetic business is one of the core businesses
for the Life Science Division at Sumitomo Corporation," Shibukawa said. "Our mission is to create a
global network as solution providers of innovative
ingredients, formulations and technologies for cosmetic companies. In the big picture, Cosmotec has
a very important role in South America, and aims at
expanding the services offered to other countries by
closely working with our international partners."
An attentive focus on the present is one of the
main formulas for the enduring success of Cosmotec. Their team believes that they are living in an
incredible time, inspired by the joint venture with
Sumitomo Corporation. This alliance has allowed an
even more active presence in the market through a
strengthening of partnerships around the world and
the prospect of new frontiers.

Humble Beginnings,
Driven by a
Mutual Vision

Fagliari and Marly M.
Yajima Fagliari

than 30 years ago.
Now 55, both were
students of Industrial Pharmacy in 1981, when they
met on the campus of Ribeirao Preto at Universidade de Sao Paulo. "It was a really good time. We
came from humble families and we went through
many situations, always together," recalls Marly. They
graduated in 1984, and were married two years later.
Marly and Luciano took the determination and
synergy they shared together and focused it toward
their business aspirations. In December of 1985, they
founded the small pharmacy Pharmacia Millenium
with two partners in the Sao Paulo neighborhood of
Vila Clementino. The quality in the manipulation
of complex formulas soon attracted the attention of
the doctors of the Escola Paulista de Medicina, and
they quickly recognized that a great opportunity was
waiting. The market for compounding pharmacies
was growing and there were no prepared suppliers.
Understanding this, Galena was founded in April of
1987. Galena's purpose was to supply to the niche
of compounding pharmacies with raw materials of
outstanding quality, sharing technical information
