218 Encounter Koalas at the San Diego Zoo The San Diego Zoo welcomed its first Australian koala pair when Snugglepot and Cuddlepie crossed the Pacific in 1925. The world-famous wildlife park has since expanded its Down-Under habitat to create the largest koala colony outside of Oz. Head to the Queenslander-style structure to watch the adorable marsupials play, snooze, and nibble fresh eucalyptus leaves. Thanks to a highly successful breeding program, chances are good you'll spot a fuzzy-eared, wide-eyed joey taking in the world from her mother's back.
