So what better time than a new year to suggest some new thinking? From where I sit, here are a few New Year resolutions—or perhaps a simple 2010 To-Do list: • Be a better student of your profession. Being the best in your profession means you never stop learning. The training industry needs more thought leaders and more innovation. Being a better student includes more search, writing and publishing. • Network with someone new. Shared resources and experiences are great learning tools. Reach out to someone you never have before at another company in another place. Use social media to find a connection. • Learn something new. Check out a program on the Learning Content Network. Read a business book from your “someday” list. Learn something just for the learning experience and not the actual knowledge. • Outsource something. Our research shows the demand and frequency of training outsourcing is climbing. Give at least a small project to an outsourced company. You’ll benefit by practicing the art of managing external providers, and you’ll get new ideas and new energy. • Rationalize what you do. Get rid of the stuff you don’t need. Make sure your content library is current, and change even the most reliable of workhorse courses. It’s best to keep everything fresh. • Celebrate your successes. Everyone wants to learn from those who are successful. Be proud to share your successes. Don’t just create a learning culture: Shout it from the rooftops. Happy 2010. What’s new with you?
