improve habitat for JeFF text and Photos By Jackson Wild Turkey during the month of February we had, by chance, a large flock of turkeys roaming our neighborhood. i counted 50 in our hayfield, more were in the adjoining woods. why so many this year? i don’t know. Maybe there was favorable weather during last year’s reduced foxes, raccoons, opossums, and other nest predators. Maybe this contributed to the increase. turkey Prescribed fire is a useful tool for certain kinds of vegetation management in both open and forest habitats. wildlife matters 22 International Year of Forests, 2011 nesting season. i think the coyotes have populations tend to boom and bust due to factors beyond a landowner’s control, despite management efforts to increase them. if you want more turkeys, what can you do?
