Celebrating Exceptional Stewardship in New Mexico
Heading north from Albuquerque, New Mexico, along Interstate 25, a winding ribbon of trees hides the Rio Grande River on the left while the Sandia Mountains rise close by on the right, draped in a cloak of faded greens and browns. Turning off at the Santa Ana Pueblo, along a winding drive through willow and shrubs and grasses, lies the 500-acre Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa. Joe Stehling, chair of the New Mexico State Tree Farm Committee, welcomed more than 300 family forest landowners and forestry professionals from 38 states to the 18th National Tree Farmer Convention. “Drink in our culture and a little enchantment and take a little home with you,” he said. That was easy enough at the resort, with its extensive trail network, outdoor courtyards, and adobe-style buildings decorated throughout with Native-American murals and sculpture.
