INOFOOD 2013 CONFERENCE AND EXPO INOFOOD 2013 CONFERENCE AND EXPO INOFOOD evolved in 2009 from the Iberoamerican Summit of Food Safety Security in an effort to install in Chile a discussion of world food safety issues and to become a benchmark for Latin America food safety issues. The following year, INOFOOD 2010 - The Food Safety Tour materialized, starting in La Serena and continuing in the cities of Santiago and Puerto Varas, all the while integrating these important issues throughout the country in a local view. Each year, the INOFOOD Summit brings together more than 40 national and international speakers and over 500 food safety professionals. INOFOOD has historically been sponsored by the Ministries of Agriculture and Health and by ACHIPIA and FAO, with support from important food companies. This year, GFSI was also a major participant, helping to organize sessions and provide speakers. Over the years, INOFOOD has become the largest event in Latin America related to food safety, quality, best practices and technologies. INOFOOD 2013 Conference, held October 7-8 in Santiago, drew approximately 500 participants from across the country and around the world. Some of the topics discussed included FSMA; Allergens; Quality Management Systems and Consumer Protection; Technologies for Laboratories, Plant and Food Services; and Detection and Control of Threats. Key speakers included Jaime Labbe, Manager of Quality Products (Fernandez, South America); Nuri Gras, Executive Secretary for the Chilean Agency for Food Safety and Quality - AGHIPIA; Samuel Godefroy, Director, General of the Food Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch, Health Canada; Yves Rey, Corporate Quality Manager, Danone Group, France, and President, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI); and Luis 36 Food Protection Trends January/February Henrique da Costa, General Manager, Latin America and Europe Biocontrol Systems, Inc. Speakers representing IAFP were President Donald Schaffner, who discussed the "Use of quantitative microbial assessment and predictive microbiology to effectively support the verification of its management system;" Executive Director David Tharp, who spoke about the Association and the benefits of membership and affiliation; and Past President Frank Yiannas, who presented on "Global Market: The advances of a multinational chain on food safety depends on everyone to create a better future." INOFOOD INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS - took a unique FOURTH QUARTER 2013 and innovative approach IAFP was proud to support and/ this year with or participate in four key food safety INOKIDS, a conferences during the last quarter of special activity 2013. In its global efforts to spread the held prior to food safety message, the Association was the conference well represented on the programs by many and devoted Members, along with past and current to educating Executive Board Members who invested conference much time traveling to Latin America, participants' Taiwan, China and Dubai to speak on children ages various topics and issues addressing 5-12 years on food safety. We are pleased that the good hygiene strong presence of IAFP at each of these practices conferences was beneficial in gaining many regarding new Members to continue our goal of handling, storing Advancing Food Safety Worldwide®. and eating food. Dedicated food safety professionals from Chile came forward during the conference to sign a "letter of Intent" with IAFP toward establishing an affiliate chapter in the country. We are pleased that this preliminary agreement is a continuing step in the efforts to improve food safety in Latin America and around the globe.
