Meeting Called to Order: 3:15 p.m. Eastern Time, Sunday, July
31, 2022.
Minutes Recording Secretary: Molly Mills.
Old Business: Reviewed Anti-Trust Guidelines and approved the
2021 minutes. Announced Dan DeMarco confirmed as the PDG
Vice Chair. Reviewed 2022 symposium and roundtable sessions
accepted and in the program. Review 2022 symposium with ALM
PDG as the secondary sponsor.
Updates on the Validation and Verification Interest Group
activities and subgroups by David Legan and subgroup leads.
This group has published three Food Protection Trends articles
on this subject in the past years and has a matrix evaluation
level assessment reference tool available in the Food Protection
member resources. Interest Group has four active subgroups as
follows: Method Equivalence, Webinars, Protocols for Inoculum
Preparation, and Article submission. Update on the Webinars
subgroup was given by Amanda Brookhouser-Sisney. She
updated that the subgroup is planning to host two webinars this
coming year. One will be background information and the second
will be on using the assessment tool and execution of a study.
Jesse Miller recommended that the PDG should consider a
workshop on this topic.
Next update was from a subgroup led by Arpan Bhagat on
handling and storage of enrichments and in-process materials
and media. There is a survey planned to gather information on
inoculum preparations, which will be compiled and shared.
Chair and Vice Chair presented awards to the V & V Interest
Group and subgroup leaders.
New Business: Asked for ideas for 2023 workshops and
sessions. Preliminary ideas gathered and will be shared through
IAFP Connect.
Recommendations to the Executive Board:
1. Request to shift the Annual IAFP Meeting one day later (start
PDG meetings on Monday).
2. Consider options to change meeting format to allow more
sessions. (This was out of frustrations that only about 50% of
recommended sessions are accepted.)
3. Sign antitrust as you collect your registration and badge.
Or sign antitrust when you are scanned entering a PDG
meeting.

4. Make the IAFP Meeting App available for connection online.

Old Business: The 2021 Beverages and Acid/Acidified Foods
PDG meeting minutes from the June 17, 2021 virtual meeting
were reviewed. A suggestion was made by Lori Ledenbach to
amend April's title under " Attendees " list from Chair to Vice Chair.
A list of approved proposals sponsored and co-sponsored by the
Beverages and Acid/Acidified Foods PDG for the 2022 meeting
were shared with the PDG members and session information
(include date, time, and location) was listed as a reminder for
those who are interested to attend.
New Business: Bet Wu (Student Liaison) shared the following
updates from Student PDG with the PDG members: (1) Invite
members to get involve as an invite scientist to connect students
with food professionals in academia, industry, and government,
(2) Invite members to join as a competition judges for the
3-minute thesis competition, (3) Include the Student PDG as a
session co-sponsor. The floor was then opened for Vice Chair
nomination. Dr. Erdogan Ceylan was nominated as a candidate
for Vice Chair. April Bishop (Vice Chair) and May Yeow (Chair)
shared with the PDG members that we still have time to selfnominate
or nomination other(s) for the upcoming Vice Chair.
An official voting ballot for Vice Chair will be send out to the
PDG members after the IAFP meeting. In the meeting, the
PDG members discussed whether or not to change the PDG
name because most members would think of acid and acidified
foods rather than beverages. It was recommended by the PDG
members, perhaps, to review the mission statement to provide
the scope of beverages and acid/acidified Foods. May shared
the list of previous proposal ideas to the PDG members and
conducted a voting process to narrow the list down to the top
three topics of interest for further discussion. Three new topics
were also suggested by the PDG members. During the meeting,
the PDG members were self-volunteered and participated in one
of those six topics of interest. Each topic lead reported out the
potential proposal titles, contents, and formats. Those six topics
were delegated to the PDG members to further develop for 2023
Symposia/Roundtable.
Recommendations to the Executive Board:
1. Review the mission statement for Beverages and Acid/
Acidified Foods PDG to define the scope of products
included in this PDG.
