IAFP BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES
JULY 18, 2023
12:30 P.M. - 1:15 P.M.
President Michelle Danyluk welcomed attendees to
the Annual Business Meeting.
Moment of Silence
President Danyluk recognized the rights and
contributions of the diverse Indigenous peoples of
Canada and then asked those present to observe a
moment of silence in memory of departed colleagues.
Call to Order
The Annual Business Meeting of the International
Association for Food Protection was called to order at
12:31 p.m. Eastern Time. A quorum was present as
defined by the IAFP Constitution.
With the approval of the Executive Board, President
Danyluk appointed Linda Harris as Parliamentarian for
the Business Meeting.
Minutes
Minutes from the 2022 Annual Business Meeting,
which were published in the November/December
2022 issue of Food Protection Trends and were
included in the Business Meeting Packet. The minutes
were accepted by vote after a motion from Mickey
Parish that was seconded by Don Schaffner.
President's Report
President Danyluk reported that IAFP continues to
thrive despite the many challenges faced throughout
the past year. She thanked Roger Cook for accepting
the pro tem President-Elect position and then announced
Tim Jackson as the new President-Elect.
President Danyluk mentioned the retirement of David
Tharp and the search committee's recommendation of
Lisa Hovey as the new Executive Director. She then
mentioned that Lisa had promoted Tamara Ford to
Assistant Director.
She reported on the successful transition of the
Journal of Food Protection to Open Access through
Elsevier and thanked Judy Luther and Panos
Skandamis.
The IAFP Foundation remains healthy and continues
to look for innovative ways to return benefits to IAFP
Members in addition to the services already provided.
She pointed out the Foundation's support of all IAFP
webinars and the huge success of the promotion of
Webinars in June by opening them for everyone to
view in honor of World Food Safety Day.
President Danyluk concluded her report by
presenting the President's Recognition Awards to
Judy Luther, Panos Skandamis, Roger Cook, Mark
Carter, Isabel Walls, Pam Wilger, Manan Sharma, Lori
Ledenbach, Anett Winkler, Byron Chaves, Gary Acuff,
Travis Chapin, Lori Frederick.
Affiliate Council Report
Affiliate Council Chair Amy Rhodes stated that
the Affiliate Council met on Sunday, July 16, 2023.
She reported that there were three virtual meetings
throughout the year continuing the discussions
regarding the four affiliate pillars established in 2022.
The gavel was passed to Fabiana Guglielmone
to begin her term as Affiliate Council Chair before
adjournment.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council Report
Angela Shaw, Chair of the DEI Council, reported
having six virtual meetings over the year. The Council
developed four subgroups to work on specific aspects
of the 2022-2023 theme " Inclusive Events. " She also
reported that the first IAFP DEI Council Demographics
and Identity Survey results were published in the
January 2023 Food Protection Trends. Angela
provided updates on the guidance document and
videos the council produced during the year. She
then announced Armitra Davis-Jackson as incoming
Chair, Erin Headley as Vice Chair, and Mary Anne
Amalaradjou as Secretary.
Executive Director's Report
Lisa Hovey reported that it was an honor to take over
as the Executive Director and that she has seen lots
of exciting developments since she attended her first
Annual Meeting in 1997.
Lisa stated that meeting attendance was strong with
over 3,200 registrants. The European Symposium on
Food Safety in Aberdeen, Scotland also had great
attendance with 370. Lisa thanked Michelle for her
representation at meetings around the globe which
contributed to IAFP's growth in Membership. She
reported that IAFP Membership is at an all-time high of
4,497 Members.
IAFP's general fund balance was reduced to
$1,984,022 for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2022.
The majority of this reduction was due to the poor
performance of investments and the cost increase of all
items for IAFP 2022. Lisa pointed out that it is important
