CU DENTAL 2018
Dr. Nicole Teifer, CU Orthodontics Class of
2008, believes in giving back to her community,
and through this passion, she has found a
variety of ways to make a difference in her
community and abroad. "Dr T", as her patients
fondly call her, has built a successful practice,
Today's Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry,
in Michigan that includes four orthodontics
and pediatric offices, serving more than
20,000 patients.
"The big thing I learned at CU Dental is
the importance of always helping others," Teifer
said.
Inspired by this idea to help others,
Teifer launched several programs to benefit
her Michigan community. Built into her
business model from the very beginning,
Teifer created the "Gift of a Smile" program to
provide charitable orthodontic treatment, and
participates with "Smiles Change Lives" and
"Dentistry from the Heart Day" to provide free
and reduced cost services for families who are
struggling and can't afford to pay for treatment.
As a way for her to contribute financially
to the communities in which she practices,
she created "Partners in Education". In this
program, Teifer puts her patients in control,
allowing them to designate their local school
of choice to receive charitable donations in
support of education and athletics programs. In

addition to this work, Teifer also hosts free mouth
guard parties for local youth participating in
various athletics, volunteers with the Wounded
Warrior Project, a Westie rescue program,
cheerleading camps and dental mission work
in the Dominican Republic.
Dentistry wasn't the first path Teifer
considered. During college she thought she
would pursue a career in medicine. However,
a memorable and positive experience with a
skilled orthodontic resident when she received
her braces motivated Teifer to pursue dentistry
and later a specialty in orthodontics.
"I loved the broad base of orthodontic
treatments offered at CU Dental. There were
lots of great professors and I was there when it
was still a new program with only 17 residents
in the entire program. It was great to be part of
something in its infancy."
Dr. Nicole Teifer sets a great example for
the CU School of Dental Medicine and her local
community in Michigan. We take pride in calling
her an alumna of our orthodontics program. ■
