In June, I will be at Vassar for my 50th
reunion. Having served as an active volunteer
since graduation, I have been on campus often
over the last several decades. I've had the
chance to witness varied architectural enhancements and other campus initiatives in an
immediate and tactile way. As the campus
blueprint has expanded, so have the opportunities to introduce students of different
interests to each other-inside the classroom
and beyond.
A recent addition to the blueprint is
the Bridge for Laboratory Sciences where
academic offerings open the scientific world
to our students. The physical component of
the building extends the southern edge of the
campus and makes Skinner Hall's extraordinary music program ever more accessible to
the rest of the Vassar community.
Once again, Vassar creates new opportunities for connection.
Beyond the campus, Vassar alumnae/i have been building metaphorical bridges, bringing
the world to Vassar and Vassar to the world.
There was an incredible alumnae-organized event that brought Vassar to Nashville; it was
attended by local members of classes ranging from 1956 to 2012. (See page 57.)
In conjunction with the Woodmere Art Museum's exhibition of the work of artist Violet
Oakley, the Vassar Club of Philadelphia hosted a reception and gallery talk for alumnae/i last
fall. The exhibition featured four Vassar-owned panels that usually hang in the Alumnae
House. (See page 56.)
President Bradley continues to be everywhere at once (or so it seems). She is an active
leader on campus, moving the college forward while traveling to meet alumnae/i all over
the U.S. and the world. These travels are allowing alumnae/i to begin to develop a personal
connection with her. All are invited to follow her Twitter feed @ehbvassar to learn more.
If your class year ends in either a 3 or an 8, I hope you are planning to attend Reunion
this June. It will be President Bradley's first Vassar reunion and promises to be a wonderful
weekend.
For those not celebrating a reunion this year, go to alums.vassar.edu to find other ways to
connect with fellow alums. I'm planning to check out @vassarathletics on Instagram to find
out when Vassar's tennis teams will be playing in my area.
Each of us has the opportunity to expand the campus beyond Poughkeepsie to our part of
the world and to connect with others from different Vassar classes or circles.
Expand your Vassar blueprint wherever you are.
