Third Culture Bakery in February 2020,
with customers waiting in line for up to
2½ hours to get a taste of mochi muffins,
butter mochi doughnuts, and matcha lattes
and sparklers. In 2016, founders Sam
Butarbutar and Wenter Shyu launched Third
Culture Bakery in Berkley, California, grew
wholesale operations, and introduced a
second location in the Aurora Cultural Arts
District four years later.

Taiwanese and Indonesian backgrounds
have helped to shape the flavor profiles for
many of Third Culture Bakery's pastries and
