MEETINGS & GROUPS
Make a
Difference
Visit Aurora's destination services team is available to connect meeting
and event planners to local nonprofits. Get involved in community
service projects, donate needed items, and create opportunities for your
team to give back. Here are several ideas for worthy causes to assist.
Aurora Ronald McDonald House
Since 1979, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver has provided
temporary housing at no cost for out-of-area families needing to be
near children receiving medical care at Anschutz Medical Campus,
home to Children's Hospital Colorado and UCHealth University of
Colorado Hospital. The 67,000-square-foot Aurora Ronald McDonald
House accommodates 45 families each night and has three large
kitchens, laundry facilities, TV lounges, indoor and outdoor play areas,
and a patio.
Groups can provide a meal, organize a wish list drive, sponsor a room,
plan a DIY fundraising event, and more. rmhc-denver.org
Aurora Warms the Night
This nonprofit was founded in 2006 when local churches pooled
their money to purchase hotel vouchers for people experiencing
homelessness, so they could avoid being outside on bitter cold nights
of winter. The City of Aurora and other local organizations have become
involved as well, and the effort has grown to include providing meals,
nonperishable food, clothing, and hygiene kits to unhoused people
DOWNTOWN AURORA VISUAL ARTS
A meaningful way to plug into the community while
meeting in Aurora is by lending a helping hand.
as well as blankets, socks, underwear, coats, hats, and gloves. The
organization also has a mobile shower trailer that travels several
nights a week.
Donate items and assemble warming, street food, and motel food
kits. Coordinate a drive for other items needed and inquire about the
organization's specific volunteer needs. aurorawarmsthenight.org
Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado
This organization helps academically motivated high school and college
students rise above disadvantaged backgrounds to earn a high school
diploma, entry into college, and a college degree through mentoring,
tutoring, and scholarship.
Boys Hope Girls Hope believes that children have
the power to overcome adversity, realize their
potential, and help transform the world. In 2022, the
organization celebrated 23 high school and eight
college graduations with students who
participate in their programs.
Take part in a career panel, team
up with the students on monthly
service activities, provide afterschool
snacks, donate, and more.
