On behalf of my wife Dorothy and the Commonwealth
of Virginia, it is our pleasure to welcome you. When you
vacation in Virginia, you create historic life experiences.
This is an exciting year for travelers in Virginia, with
new attractions like the Virginia Oyster Trail; exciting
culinary events and festivals, new additions for ATV riders
on the Spearhead Trails, and new breweries, wineries,
distilleries and cideries opening all across the state.
Virginia is the cradle of American history. We are the
Mother of Presidents, with eight United States presidents
calling Virginia home. The first English settlers arrived
on our shores in 1607, marking the beginning of a new
nation. Our lands have seen countless battles during
the Revolutionary and Civil Wars that will forever be
remembered in our nation's collective mind. No other
state can connect to the story of America like we can
in Virginia.
Virginia is equally a destination full of adventure, flavor
and authentic travel experiences. With more than 3,000
miles of scenic byways, 36 state parks, the worldrenowned Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive, and
28 miles of warm sunny beaches, Virginia's natural
beauty is unparalleled.
Our cuisine is also unmatched. Nothing completes a
true Virginia vacation like sipping a glass of awardwinning Virginia wine, enjoying a waterfront sunset
with Virginia oysters, or savoring an entrée prepared
by a one of our talented chefs. No other state came
close to earning the culinary accolades that Virginia did
in 2014. Virginia's surging restaurant and bar scene
propelled us to new heights in the opinion of leading
food and drink journals. Our chefs elbowed their way
into the top, aided enormously by top Virginia-based
purveyors in meat, seafood and produce along with
artisanal cheese makers and bakers. Virginia's 100+
craft brewers collected a record number of top awards in
international competition in 2015, joining Virginia wine,
cider and spirits in elevating the state's long-standing
reputation for delicious beverages. All told, Virginia has
staked its place at the table in any national conversation
about "America's best" food and drink.

toe tapping to the sounds of authentic Virginia music
along Virginia's Crooked Road. Winding across 330
miles through the mountains of Southwest Virginia, this
trail connects music lovers to Virginia's deeply rooted
bluegrass and country music heritage. What you find
here is real music played by real people. This authentic
porch-stompin' music was born in Southwest Virginia,
and has been passed on to the present generation.
From Johnny Cash's favorite family stage at the Carter
Family Fold to the oldest fiddlers' convention in the
United States in Galax, this trail is filled with authentic
music experiences from local musicians to world-class
luthiers. From the ocean to the mountains, Virginia is
the perfect place to start your next musical adventure.
