EDITOR’S CHOICE Broadcom Unlocks Potential of 5G WiFi with Integrated SoCs for Home and SMB Networks Broadcom Corp. has announced the industry’s first System on a Chip (SoC) devices to deliver the potential of 5G Wi-Fi with high-bandwidth Gigabit connectivity to the home and SMB network. Designed as companions to its line of 5G Wi-Fi 802.11ac solutions, the Broadcom SoCs combine a high performance processor, Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch, GbE physical layer transceivers (PHYs), USB 3.0 and traffic accelerators all on a single chip. As video and media consumption continues to grow, 5G WiFi enabled devices and services will play a critical role in delivering reliability, higher capacity and faster throughput. Broadcom’s SoCs, the StrataGX series for SMB routers and network attached storage (NAS) devices and the BCM4708x series for home routers and gateways, offer a complete end-to-end solution to enable stand-alone platforms to achieve the Gigabit wireless rates that 5G WiFi can deliver. The resulting connectivity will enable multiple users in the home or office to simultaneously stream video content and high bandwidth application downloads 10 times faster without the buffering and interruptions associated with current networks. - See Broadcom’s Presentation at Mobile Antenna Systems 2012 power in field environments. With eight hours of continuous battery life, the S331L allows field technicians to conduct a full day’s testing on a single charge. Intelligent power-saving features, such as sleep mode and autodisplay brightness that automatically reduces the screen’s backlight when the analyzer is not in use, can extend battery life well beyond the continuous eight-hour rating. The S331L features the field-proven Site Master design. It is dust- and splash-resistant, has a backlit 7-inch TFT touch screen display, and weighs under 2 kg (4.4 lbs), including battery. The rugged design and compact size make the S331L well suited for any field application, including level ground, climbing large towers, or climbing through a roof hatch. The S331L can also be used with Sweep Master Pro, an enterprise-level, web-based line sweep and tracking tool for large multiple cell-site installation and maintenance projects, and Line Sweep Tools (LST), a free PC-based program that increases productivity for users responsible for numerous cable and antenna traces daily. Antenova Releases Global LTE Antenna Reference Design For Smartphones New Generation of Site Master Handheld Cable and Antenna Analyzer Anritsu Company has introduced the Site Master S331L Cable and Antenna Analyzer, a new generation of rugged handheld field instrumentation that builds off the fieldproven design and success of the Site Master to provide high-performance cable and antenna analysis quickly and accurately. Reliable, durable, easy-to-use, and offering eight hours of continuous battery life, the S331L is a cost-efficient tool for tower contractors, installation and maintenance contractors, and wireless service providers to ensure optimum deployment, installation and maintenance of wireless networks. The S331L, which covers 2 MHz to 4 GHz, brings a high level of performance to return loss, cable loss and Distance-to-Fault (DTF) measurements. It has the highest RF immunity of any Site Master. A sweep speed per data point of 1.5 msec (typical) saves technicians time and enables easier identification of intermittent problems in real time. Helping ensure measurement accuracy is the standard built-in InstaCal, which provides fast one-connection calibration anytime, anywhere. The S331L also features a standard built-in power meter, for easy, convenient testing of RF Antenova Ltd. has released a LTE Antenna Reference Design for Smartphones, which covers the global LTE bands. Antenova’s extremely wideband and efficient antenna design overcomes the difficulty of covering all the LTE frequency bands without the use of switches or tunable active components, resulting in a lower cost LTE MIMO antenna system for smartphones. “LTE is the fastest developing mobile system technology ever and is on every mobile device makers’ roadmap, however the goal of a truly global LTE smartphone imposes great challenges on the antenna system,” said Greg McCray, CEO of Antenova. “While the current majority of LTE user devices operate in the 700 MHz band, which has been heavily driven by the US market, rollout of LTE networks in other regions now require devices to operate in the LTE frequency bands utilized in those markets as well. Antenova has been working with Tier 1 smartphone, tablet and notebook vendors and providing them with patented and novel LTE antenna solutions with both custom antenna designs and antenna reference designs.” The A10453 LTE antenna is a low profile 6 mm height internal corner mount antenna utilizing Antenova’s innovative antenna technology, which covers the five cellular bands plus the LTE bands. This extremely wideband and efficient A10453 LTE antenna can be used as a single element for SISO (Single-In-Single-Out) applications or in pairs in a symmetric configuration for a MIMO system. Optimal performance is achieved when two A10453 antennas in a symmetric pair configuration are mounted along the short edge of the PCB in smartphone applications. A USB connector can also be fitted between the two antenna elements without affecting the performance. - See Antenova’s Presentation at Mobile Antenna Systems 2012 4 ANTENNA SYSTEMS & TECHNOLOGY FALL 2012 WWW.ANTENNASONLINE.COM http://WWW.ANTENNASONLINE.COM
