Peregrine Semiconductor, LG Electronics Team Up for Antenna Tuning
Peregrine Semiconductor Corp. and LG Electronics have teamed up to develop the high-performance antenna tuning design solution in the LG Optimus G Pro smartphone that was recently introduced to the
Korean market. The Optimus G Pro features a 5.5-inch full high definition (HD) in-plane switching (IPS)
display, the largest display available on a LG smartphone, and it is 9.4 mm thick, meeting the growing
demand for smartphones with large screens in a thin-and-slim form factor. Peregrine’s DuNE technology
optimizes the performance of the main antenna by bringing the best of what its UltraCMOS and DuNE
technologies offer, optimized handset efficiency, data rate, call integrity and battery life. By enabling one
antenna to more efficiently cover multiple frequency bands, the DuNE-based tuning solution enables the
Optimus G Pro to support a subset of the more than 40 frequency bands available with 4G LTE.
“Peregrine is thrilled to announce that we have teamed up with industry giant LG for their latest offering,”
said Dylan Kelly, vice president of Peregrine’s Mobile Wireless Solutions business unit. “LG continues to
develop innovative products for the premium LTE smartphone market, and the release of the Optimus G
Pro in Korea is the latest example. Teaming up with LG further validates that Peregrine’s DuNE technology
is ideal for 4G LTE smartphones.”
Electromagnetic Interference Toolkit
Version 3.3 Released
Delcross Technologies has released its EMIT (Electromagnetic
Interference Toolkit) Version 3.3 software. Among the features
in this release are 23 new pre-defined transceiver, receiver and
transmitter definitions.
EMIT is a software framework for cosite simulation and management
of installed RF systems. These RF systems may consist of multiple receivers, transmitters, antennas, interconnection components and installation platforms. EMIT manages installed RF system performance
data, simulates intra-system RF EMI effects, and mitigates EMI issues, resulting in a comprehensive
database/model maintainable over the life of a host platform. It also uses antenna-to-antenna coupling
measurements, or simulation data from the Delcross Savant software for installed antenna performance
analysis. A seamless integration with CST Studio Suite also enables efficient, error-free import of antenna
modeling data from CST’s family of high frequency EM software products.
EMIT V3.3 introduces 23 predefined radio definitions to the EMIT system library, reducing the setup time
for many cosite analyses. Radio definitions include both architectures and programing: channel definitions,
channel bandwidths, modulation type, noise levels, spectral profiles, power levels, MDS, intermodulation,
harmonic and mixer products, frequency hopping definitions, and other key system parameters which influence the spectral behavior of RF systems. A total of 49 predefined radios are now packaged with EMIT,
providing an integrated library of existing transceivers, receivers and transmitters.
According to Delcross EMIT product manager, Dr. Fred German, these radio presets represent a popular
pool of requested radio definitions from current EMIT users.
In addition to new RF system definitions, a number of performance and visualization enhancements have
been added, offering a significant speed-up when working with large projects.
“We aim to streamline the process of RF cosite EMI analysis,” German said. “Many of our customers are
dealing with more than 40 separate RF systems integrated on the same aircraft, ship or other vehicle. By
adding more predefined radios used by fielded systems, we greatly reduce the time our users spend in
defining the RF systems for cosite simulation. This helps our customers spend most of their time on cosite
EMI mitigation, with a tool that helps them to quickly work the ‘what if’ scenarios.”
