Keynote Presentation
New Antennas for Mobile Connectivity
Bob Giometti, Vice President of R&D and Engineering – SkyCross
Mobile device makers are struggling to accommodate the multiple MIMO antennas needed for optimal LTE and
LTE-A performance. How can they deliver all of these technologies’ capabilities and reconcile conflicting demands for increasing data throughput and lighter, thinner form factors? This presentation will discuss why tunable antenna technology is the ideal solution and how it can be a major driving factor for LTE and LTE-A adoption. Also addressed: Top benefits and unique capabilities of active tunable antenna technology; Solutions for
spatial differentiation challenges; and How tunable antennas enhance the ergonomic design of mobile devices.

Antenna Tuning is Not a Trend; It’s Critical to Pervasive Wireless Connectivity
Jeff Shamblin, Chief Scientist - Ethertronics, Inc.
Antenna Tuning is the newest “buzz word” in the RF front-end space. But what is it exactly and how can it be
applied to improve connectivity for next-generation networks and mobile devices? This session will explore
why antenna tuning is necessary for network operators and OEMs to continue delivering a superior user experience despite network and device challenges such as frequency bands required for 4G LTE and global roaming, and reduced space and BoM for RF components. Also addressed will be the antenna system components
such as Band/Aperture Switching and Null Steering to improve network capacity and link budget.

Airborne on the Move: Situational Awareness with In-Flight Monitoring
Karl Fuchs, Vice President of Technology - iGT
Delivering reliable satellite communications to a plane is challenging. Planes move rapidly and fly in and out of
satcom coverage. Airborne antennas and systems need to switch satellites seamlessly without delays to provide
continuous and effective communications. The best chance for success is the implementation of an in-flight
management system that can “look” at airborne satcom’s global multi-satellite environment and provide network
operators with a complete picture and status of their airborne networks including modem and antenna control
unit (ACU) states, as well as a countdown to beam-switch timer. This session will review the importance and
capabilities of in-flight monitoring.
