Ultrasonic Spot Welding Equipment
Manufacturers of advanced batteries rely on Sonobond's
ultrasonic spot welders for environmentally friendly, high
performance foil-to-foil, foil-to-tab and foil-to-terminal
welds, battery pouches and HV terminations. They're the
ideal choice for today's rechargeable Lithium-Ion, Ni-CD
and Ni-MH batteries used in applications such as all-electric
and hybrid automobiles, medical technology, military and
telecommunication fields.
In addition, Sonobond's reliable, high-conductivity

Ultrasonic Spot Welding Equipment
Sonobond's two ultrasonic spot welder models that are
typically utilized for battery assembly, the SonoWeld 1600
and Dual Head Spot Welder,
use lower vibration amplitude than other ultrasonic
equipment to weld foils
as thin as seven microns,
without tearing. Plus, the
Dual Head Spot Welder is
the first ultrasonic welder
designed to join up to 100
layers of copper or aluminum foil in just one pulse.
The units use outputs of
1,500, 2,500 or 3,500 watts.
Both models have digital
displays that allow weld control to be selected by time,
energy, or distance. Each unit has a power supply with a
built-in microprocessor that features automatic frequency
control, overload protection, and storage/recall of up to
250 weld protocols.
Heat-treated, tool steel Taper Lock Tips can perform up
to 30,000 welds before redressing is required and as many
as 100,000 welds before being easily removed and replaced.
As with all Sonobond equipment, these spot welders require only minimal training.

Sonobond's Unique Ultrasonic Welding System
Ensures Reliable Welds
Ultrasonic metal welding requires no external heat,
current, fluxes or fillers, and produces no arcs, sparks, or
fumes. Instead, high frequency,
ultrasonic energy is directed via
a welding tip to the surface between the metals being welded.
The vibratory energy disperses
the oxides and surface films between the work pieces, creating a
true metallurgical bond without
melting the materials or using
any consumables.
All Sonobond metal spot
welders are made in the U.S.A.
and employ the company's
unique, patented Wedge-Reed
Bonding System of high vibratory force and low amplitude
coupling. By utilizing shear
mode vibration parallel to the
welding surface and putting the
line of force directly over the
parts to be welded, precise, dependable, solid-state and
highly conductive welds are achieved, without bending
stress or stalling.
An important fact is that Sonobond's ultrasonic system is
the only one that enables most oxidized and tinned metals
and wires to be welded without pre-cleaning, and with just
one pulse.
A pioneering manufacturer of ultrasonic equipment for
welding non-ferrous metals and other materials, Sonobond
holds more than 150 patents, including the first patent for
ultrasonic metal welding, awarded in 1960. Our ultrasonic
