Hardware Self-Clinching Thru-Hole Untreaded Standoffs Offer Spacing for Multi-Panel Assemblies PennEnginering’s PEM selfclinching thru-hole unthreaded standoff fasteners provide solutions for applications where exact spacing is required between two panels in an assembly. These fasteners install permanently and securely in steel, stainless steel or aluminum sheets as thin as 0.040 inches/1 mm to achieve specified panel-spacing needs using minimal hardware. This family of self-clinching thru-hole unthreaded standoffs can be supplied in steel (Type SO), stainless steel (Type SOS) or aluminum (Type SOA). All can be ordered in lengths ranging from 0.125 inches/3 mm to 7.50 inches/20 mm. The standoffs install using a PEMserter or other standard press by first inserting the fastener into a properly sized round mounting hole in the metal sheet and into the press anvil. With punch and anvil surfaces parallel, sufficiently applied squeezing force embeds the standoff’s head flush in the sheet and the fastener is permanently installed without risk of loosening or falling out. No other hardware is necessary to accomplish the required spacing function. The rugged, single-body design of the screw-in vents is engineered with an even more robust plastic that prevents damage from mechanical impact. The advanced properties of the vent’s membrane enable the vent to recover quickly after liquid immersion. This chemically inert, UV-resistant membrane withstands operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to 125°C, enabling the vent to be used in harsh environments. For extreme conditions, such as explosive environments, Gore offers a metal vent with the same screw-in design and protection performance. WAGO TopJob S Terminal Fuse Blocks with Three Jumper Slots One Stop Systems’ Releases New PCIe x8 Gen 3 Adapters One Stop Systems, Inc. (OSS) has shipped its first PCIe x8 Gen 3 expansion adapters. The new card mounts flat in a small form factor enclosure and contains a PCIe x16 mechanical slot. This makes it well suited for 1U disk arrays requiring a single RAID card. This is a universal adapter that can mount into a limited height space. The PCIe x8 Gen 3 embedded cable adapter (OSS-PCIe-ECA-x8-G3) operates at data transfer speeds up to 64Gb/s. Gore Enhances Product Performance in Next Generation of Screw-in Vents Select Wago Corp. 2002 series TopJob S Terminal Blocks now carry three jumper slots for greater control cabinet flexibility. New DIN-rail disconnect/test with mechanical interlock, mini-automotive blade-style fuse and fuse disconnect with pivoting holder (5 by 20 mm) accommodate one output and two input potential commoning. This provides convenient in-circuit current testing and potential distribution on both sides of the block. The third jumper slot permits test and measurement via plugs/ taps without distributing machine wiring. Example: Test 4-20ma signals or record data by disengaging the knife/pivoting disconnect, or removing blade-style fuse. This routes the circuit to a plug/data recorder in the third slot. Similarly, fuse testing occurs on the opposite end of the signal. All slots accommodate stepdown jumpers, staggered jumpers, push-in type jumper bars and wire jumpers for potential commoning in virtually any manner. The two-conductor (AWG 22–12) fuse blocks accommodate TopJob S connectors for additional versatility. Rated 15A/300V, three models are available with or without a mechanical interlock. The interlock safely holds the disconnect link in place to assist test/measurement. Three models are available, a 12 V or 24 V unit with a blown fuse LED, or without LED indication. Blade-Style blocks are rated 10 A/300 V. The units are also available with or without a blown fuse LED indicator, fuse disconnect blocks with pivoting holder accommodates mini-Metric fuses (5 by 20 mm). Units are rated 6.3 A/250 V. W. L. Gore & Associates has introduced the next generation of its screw-in Gore Protective Vents with a more rugged, single-body construction that increases protection against mechanical stress. For additional reliability, all of these vents are now online quality-tested and laser-marked with unique identification numbers to enable individual product tracking. The screw-in vents maintain high airflow in electronic housings and sealed devices. The constant airflow equalizes internal pressure, which in turn prevents premature failure of the housing seals by virtually eliminating vacuum caused by pressure build-up. At the same time, the vent prevents water, dust, dirt and other contaminants from entering the housing and damaging the sensitive electronics. This durable venting solution increases product reliability and improves profitability by reducing the need to over-engineer a product’s housing. 26 FCI Launches Next-Generation SAS Storage Interface FCI has developed the next-generation SAS storage interface with its new MiniSAS HD product portfolio offering. The product line meets the signal bandwidth requirements of 6 Gb/s to 12 Gb/s or the respective SAS 2.1 and proposed SAS 3.0 industry standard signaling specifications. The system also provides a greater linear board port density (11 mm port-to-port) versus the previous SAS interconnect systems (with a linear port density of just 19.01 mm port-to-port). FCI’s Mini-SAS HD product offering is fully compliant to the SFF-8643 (internal applications) and SFF-8644 (external applications) industry specifications. Available internal and external board connector styles include 1X1 (4x), 1X2 (8x), and 1X4 (16x) con- June/July 2012 www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com http://www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com
