Allegro Introduces 1 MHz Bandwidth, Integrated
Hall-Effect-Based Current Sensor IC
Allegro MicroSystems, LLC has announced its first-ever 1 MHz
bandwidth Hall-effect current sensor IC with a 210 ns response
time. The ACS730 provides an economical and precise solution for
AC or DC current sensing. Allegro's ACS730 is targeted at industrial, commercial and communications systems. Typical applications
include motor control, load detection and management, switchedmode power supplies and overcurrent fault protection.
This device consists
of a precise, low-offset,
linear Hall sensor circuit
with a copper conduction path located near
the surface of the die.
Applied current flowing through this copper
conduction path generates a magnetic field,
which is sensed by the
integrated Hall IC and
converted into a proportional voltage. Device accuracy is optimized
through the close proximity of the magnetic field to the Hall transducer. A precise, proportional voltage is provided by the Hall IC,
which is programmed for accuracy after packaging.
The output of the device has a positive slope when an increasing
current flows through the primary copper conduction path (from
pins 1 and 2, to pins 3 and 4), which is the path used for current
sensing. The internal resistance of this conductive path is typically
1.2 mΩ, providing low power loss. The terminals of the conductive
path are electrically isolated from the sensor leads (pins 5 through
8). This allows the ACS730 current sensor IC to be used in high-side
current sense applications without the use of high-side differential
amplifiers or other costly isolation techniques.
The ACS730 is provided in a small, low-profile surface-mount
SOIC-8 package. The leadframe is plated with 100 percent matte
tin, which is compatible with standard lead (Pb) free printed circuit board assembly processes. Internally, the device is Pb-free,
except for flip-chip high-temperature Pb-based solder balls, currently exempt from RoHS. The device is fully calibrated prior to
shipment from the factory. The ACS730 is priced at $1.77 in
quantities of 1,000.
Pulse Launches First High Isolation Surface Mount
Gate Drive Transformer Series
Pulse Electronics Corp. has expanded its high isolation gate drive
transformer line with a new surface mount series using its patented
Sidecar package. The PH9400 series provides isolation in MOSFET
and IGBT drivers in industrial applications such as motor drive circuits and solar inverters and for power supplies for a range of medical devices. This series offers a SMT alternative to the existing THT
P058xx series while increasing the volts-second capability by up to
300 percent.
"Pulse's patented Sidecar package has the coil inserted at one
end of an open package with the high isolation pins placed at the
other end. This configuration isolates the coil from pins achieving a
greater creepage distance between them," said Gerard Healy, product manager, Pulse Electronics Power Business Unit (Pulse Power
Division). "This compact construction allows for a larger core to be
used, thereby increasing the volts-second capability, while reducing the size and increasing the creepage distance by 50 percent in
comparison to the existing THT solution."
Murata Launches Automotive-Grade Monolithic
Ceramic Capacitors
Murata Americas has developed the GRT series, a new line of
automotive-grade monolithic ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) that
meets the Automotive Electronics Council's (AEC)-Q200 Grade 2
standard. The line is
suited for automotive
infotainment
and
comfort-andconvenience applications, such as navigation systems and
audio equipment. It
offers a case size of
0201 to 1210 (EIA),
capacitance range of
1.0 pF to 100 uF, and
4 to 100 VDC rated
voltage. Further, the line delivers temperature characteristics of
X5R, X6S, X7R and C0G.
Over the last several years, there has been an increased demand
for both industry-compliant and automotive grade MLCCs. Murata's GRT series is comprised of several variations of the solution
to ensure that the market's needs are being fully met. The lineup
consists of a range of 818 capacitors offering different temperature characteristics, rated voltages, and case sizes. Given that, these
components deliver enhanced reliability in a decreased package
size, two critical benefits in designing for infotainment and comfort-and-convenience devices.
