Industry Perspectives
The evolution of the downstream
In Hydrocarbon Processing's April issue, the editorial comment focused on advancing ideas in the downstream processing industries. As mentioned in the column, "advancing ideas
can be facilitated and expedited during industry events. Any
time that the industry can come together and share knowledge
on best practices and technological advancements provides a
significant catalyst for increasing plant efficiency, profitability
and safety."
In June, senior-level hydrocarbon processing industry
(HPI) leaders will meet in Helsinki, Finland for Hydrocarbon
Processing's International Refining and Petrochemical Conference (IRPC). IRPC EurAsia's focus is on the evolution of the
downstream. This concept includes the integration of refining and petrochemical operations; increasing production of
ultra-low-sulfur fuels; incorporating digital technologies and
optimized processing techniques to improve reliability, safety,
environmental awareness and profitability; the circular economy; advances in plastics recycling and alternative and biofuels technologies; increasing plant energy efficiency while reducing carbon emissions and waste; the latest advancements
in catalyst design and project management;and more.
The technical event, which takes place June 5-7, is highlighted by four timely keynote presentations:
*	 Transforming business for a low-carbon society:
Peter Vanacker, Chief Executive Officer, Neste
* European refining 2050: Turning vision into reality:
Stephen George, Chief Economist, KBC
* Circular economy and digitalization as strategic
opportunities for the European petrochemical
industry: Thomas van de Velde, Vice President, BU
Hydrocarbons and Energy, Borealis Polymers
* Global decarbonization scenarios for the
petrochemical sector: Kamel Ben-Naceur,
General Manager, Normadia Energy Consulting
and former Chief Economist, ADNOC.
The technical agenda is complimented by numerous networking opportunities to meet industry leaders and share
ideas on advancing HPI technology, as well as opening new
avenues for business opportunities. The event opens with a
half-day seminar by NAPCON and concludes with a tour of
Neste's Kilpilahti refinery.
IRPC EurAsia continues to be a place where the industry
can come together to exchange the latest advancements in
processing technologies and refinery and petrochemical plant
operations, as well as an open forum to discuss ideas to optimize the downstream processing industries. However, this advancement of the downstream oil and gas industry is not possible without your involvement. We hope you will join us at
IRPC EurAsia to further the evolution of the downstream.
