Luxury Auto Maker Bentley Goes After Magnet
Materials & Manufacturing Advancements
Iconic luxury car maker Bentley Motors is pursuing two projects in
the magnetics supply chain to support its commitment toward automobile
electrification. One aims to use recycled magnets to produce
auxiliary motors for cars, the other to develop an e-powertrain without
dependence on rare earth magnets.
Magnetism Plays Key Roles in DARPA Research to Develop
Brain-Machine Interface without Surgery
Some of the most exotic research involving magnetism is sponsored
by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, known
as DARPA. One of their programs, literally, boggles the mind as it
delves into areas once considered the realm of science fiction and
could lead to new medical breakthroughs.

Toshiba's New Magnetic Material Improves Motor
Energy Conversion Efficiency
Researchers at Toshiba Corporation have developed a new magnetic
material that delivers major improvements in motor efficiency at minimum
cost, and with the potential to win significant reductions in power
consumption. It has been found to greatly boost motor energy conversion
efficiency when it is used as the wedges in the motor, particularly
in medium to large induction motors. The material can be installed at
minimal cost with no need for design changes.
