Editor’s Choice Kepware Technologies has released KEPServerEX version 5.6. Kepware has added three new products to its communication platform KEPServerEX, which have primary relevance to both the manufacturing and Oil & Gas and industries. The Weatherford 8500 serial driver was developed as part of Kepware’s continuing effort to provide reliable and intuitive products to the oil and gas industry. It communicates with WellPilot rod pump controllers, which gather and monitor critical production information from oil and/or gas well sites. KEPServerEX’s connectivity to Weatherford 8500 allows operators to monitor information, alarms and events from remote locations and provides operators the ability to make process adjustments. As part of this introduction, Kepware has added a media level redundancy plug-in option to KEPServerEX to address the critical operations that often occur in the oil and gas industry. Media level redundancy including device level and communications path based redundancy will be offered as a free plug-in for the next six months. This redundancy will provide an additional level of reliability over Kepware’s existing RedundancyMaster product, which supplies OPC Clients with OPC Server redundancy. KEPServerEX’s MTConnect driver allows connectivity to machine tools that support MTConnect or any legacy equipment through an MTConnect Agent. MTConnect is a royalty-free open standard for connecting shop floor technologies that furthers the automation industry’s goal of seamless manufacturing operation. The MTConnect Driver allows the retrieval of machine-level statistics for productivity, OEE and SPC analysis. The KEPServerEX 5.6 release also includes a new Applicom device model for the Modbus Ethernet driver, a Ford Ethernet protocol device model for the torque tool driver, and several CTI device models for the Simatic 505 Ethernet driver. Kepware Technologies Releases KEPServerEX Version 5.6 control strategy variables, and execute control functions such as turning digital output points on or off, writing values to analog outputs and changing control variables and table entries. Specific I/O points and tagnames can be retrieved, viewed, and saved to a Watch List for quick future reference. Also, Opto iPAC users can start or stop any flowcharts running within their control strategies. The mobility enabled by Opto iPAC creates new opportunities for control system diagnostics, maintenance and troubleshooting. Engineers and technicians carrying their mobile device in the field or on the plant floor can inspect their SNAP PAC System controllers and I/O processors, view any control strategies running or saved on their controllers, check firmware and perform other functions that could otherwise only be accomplished from a PC running Microsoft Windows-based PAC Project software. Opto 22 has introduced the Opto iPAC iOS App, offering access to the company’s SNAP PAC System via mobile devices including the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Detailed, real-time, control system information is quickly accessible to authorized control engineers, maintenance personnel, technicians and others through their mobile and tablet devices. Now these automation and control professionals can view, debug and fine-tune their wirelessly accessible control and I/O systems, saving time and money during installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance. Using the Opto iPAC application, devices running iOS can discover any wirelessly accessible SNAP PAC programmable automation controllers (PAC) and I/O systems on the control system network. Authorized Opto iPAC users with proper security credentials can inspect SNAP I/O points and PAC Opto 22 Releases iOS App for Automation And Control Systems Reliable Solar Power Systems Field-proven SunWize solar energy systems put power where you need it! • Reliable Solar Power Systems from SunWize • Designed by solar engineers for 24/7 reliability • Easily integrated into your remote site project • Assembled in the USA by SunWize technicians • Robust packaging for shipment to remote sites • Just three simple system connections in the field For more information contact: Charlie Bachman Oil & Gas Industry Sales Manager Tel: 303-604-1125 • cbachman@sunwize.com www.sunwize.com/industrial-solar Remote Site & Equipment Management \ October/November 2011 5 http://www.sunwize.com/industrial-solar http://www.sunwize.com/industrial-solar
