Moxa Converters Extend PROFIBUS Networks Over Fiber
Optic Cable Up to 25 Miles
Moxa has introduced two PROFIBUS-to-fiber
converters that transparently bridge PROFIBUS to
optical fiber, providing total isolation, protection
against EMI/RFI interference and freedom from
equipment grounding problems. Equally important,
the two converters help extend connections up to
2.5 miles on multi-mode fiber or up to 25 miles on
single-mode fiber at data rates up to 12 Mbps , well
beyond the speed and distance limitations of traditional twisted pair copper installations.
An integrated Remote Fiber Diagnosis function
eliminates the need for specialized test equipment
and significantly shortens troubleshooting time in
installations by allowing one person to examine
fiber connections for the overall topology from any
individual converter.
The Moxa ICF-1280I has dual ports to build a redundant fiber ring with
zero recovery time, while the Moxa ICF-1180I is a single port converter.
Both models feature 2 KV isolation protection and dual power inputs to ensure that PROFIBUS devices perform uninterrupted. To avoid configuration
errors and minimize manual configuration efforts of baudrate settings, both
also incorporate auto baudrate detection. This feature enables fast, error-free
configuration of the converters and reduces system deployment time.
To prevent a single bus failure from affecting the entire PROFIBUS
network, the converters feature a Bus Fail Safe that detects and recognizes
noise signals. If the bus fails on one side, the noise signal will not propagate
through the converter and affect additional bus segments. Also, the converter will automatically trigger an alarm notification to the field engineer on
the location of the failure, allowing them to quickly locate the failed device.
Red Lion Adds All-Gigabit Capabilities to OEM Industrial
Ethernet Switch Family
Red Lion Controls has added the ET8MG-OEM board-level, all-Gigabit switch
to its industrial Ethernet family. Red Lion's
fully managed Sixnet series ET-8MG-OEM
switches provide a commercial off-the-shelf
solution for OEM customers, allowing them to
add industrial-grade networking capabilities to
their products.
Delivered in a compact PC 104 footprint,
the ET-8MG-OEM switches provide rugged,
industrial-grade networking designed to withstand the harshest environments. Its flexible board-level design allows integration into embedded
applications with support for a combination of up to eight 10/100/1000Base
copper and 100/1000Base SFP or SFF fiber ports.
Manufacturers creating solutions for customers in the military, utility,
alternative energy, transportation or security surveillance industries will find
value in the ET-8MG-OEM switch's ability to keep industrial networks up
and running. With support for a wide range of operating temperatures and a
robust managed feature set, Red Lion's ET-8MG-OEM switches offer manufacturers a fully functional, turnkey industrial Gigabit Ethernet solution.
XetaWave Releases Two New Products, XIO and XX
XetaWave has released the XIO and XX, expanding upon its offering
of high performance radios. The XIO is a versatile, dual band IO solution based on the collaboration between XetaWave and OKC products. It
combines XetaWave's Xeta9m-T radio module with OKC Products Class 1
Division 1 Aeromate to offer an IO solution with the superior performance
and reliability of XetaWave's innovative RF technology within one integrated, rugged device.
Offering two analog inputs and two digital IOs, the XIO can be used
across multiple industries for the monitoring of temperatures, pressures,
levels, meters, pumps, valves and for process control applications. The XIO

is sensor independent, allowing the user
to select the best sensor for the application, supports Modbus, and is integrated
with XetaWave networks. The XIO is
the only dual band IO solution available,
operating in the MAS licensed 928 to
960 MHz band and ISM 902 to 928 MHz
unlicensed band.
The XX (Double XX) is XetaWave's 902 to 928 MHz offering, delivering up to 7 Mbps and a new way of communicating within congested ISM
bands. To the user, the XX looks like a single radio operating within a
single antenna. Internally the XX has two independent data channels operating on two separate non-interfering frequencies. Each channel dynamically
and transparently sends data.
The XX supports point-to-point, point-to-multipoint applications and as
a repeater. As with all XetaWave radios, the XX is a software defined radio
that automatically optimizes parameters across three axes, power output,
channel size and modulation, allowing for data transfer rates from 115
kbps to 7 Mbps, power output from 10 mW to 1 W, and variable channel
sizing from 250 kHz to 1.5 MHz. The XX selectively switches modulation
schemes to ensure required throughput given available channel sizes and
environmental noise.
B&B Electronics and RacoWireless Combine Cellular
Router and Data Plan in Starter Kit for Industrial M2M
B&B Electronics and
RacoWireless have teamed
up to offer a Spectre cellular router packaged with
a prepaid wireless data plan
as a starter kit for customers
who are developing industrial
M2M monitoring and control
applications. Included with
B&B Electronics' Spectre 3G
cellular router is a free, prepaid, 60-day trial 100 MB/100 SMS RacoWireless 3G data plan, allowing customers to wirelessly connect their mobile
equipment over the T-Mobile 3G cellular USA network.
Developed to help network engineers jump-start their industrial M2M
network designs, this kit allows users to develop their solution before
having to commit to a full data plan. Customers contact B&B Electronics'
technical support to activate their 60-day trial data plan and for technical
assistance. At the end of the trial, customers can contact RacoWireless to
purchase a data plan that best fits their M2M application.
"As an industrial cellular device manufacturer, it's our goal to work with
partners like RacoWireless to facilitate device activation and connectivity
for industrial customers, similar to the way the local cellular store does for
consumers," said Jerry O'Gorman, CEO of B&B Electronics. "Customers
can expect seamless support from both companies to ensure that their application operates smoothly."
The B&B Electronics/Raco Wireless Starter Kit includes a Spectre 3G
HSPA+/GPRS/GSM cellular router, 10/100 Ethernet, RS-232/422/485,
802.11 Wi-Fi and Raco's Omega Management Suite for account management, control and reporting.
Built for plug-and-play simplicity with extensive remote management,
deployment and customization options, the rugged Spectre 3G wireless
router wirelessly extends local M2M networks connected via Ethernet
10/100 and RS-232/422/485 with enhanced features such as Modbus and
Wi-Fi. Users manage the router's robust configuration options through a secure and easy-to-use Web interface or a powerful scripting engine. A rugged
design with a wide operating range (-30°C to 60°C) make the router well
suited for M2M connectivity in harsh, remote environments.
