SCADA Software Expanded for Plant-Specific Analysis of
Individual KPIs
Siemens Industry Automation division has expanded the Simatic WinCC
V7.2 SCADA software with the optional
WinCC/PerformanceMonitor package for
calculating and analyzing plant-specific key
performance indicators (KPIs). The user can
derive optimization potential for production
and measures for increasing productivity.
The Simatic WinCC V7.2 SCADA software supports the acquisition, visualization and analysis of production data.
Analysis with the WinCC/PerformanceMonitor software package is based
on the process data acquired by WinCC, which are associated with each
other during runtime. The user quickly and simply sets up the calculation
formulas to be used in WinCC, without any additional knowledge.
Several visualizations are possible for evaluation: a Gantt chart with
the time sequence of states, a bar chart for analyzing the key performance
indicators and a table for states and accompanying values. The visualizations are also available via the web in the WinCC WebNavigatorClient. The
calculated key performance indicators can be further processed in a WinCC
display, for example line-dashboard, or in a trend display. In conjunction
with the Simatic information server, the key performance indicators can be
grouped together online to form target-group-oriented reports and can be
queried at any time.
FreeWave Introduces Class 1 Division 1 Solution for
Wireless Monitoring in Hazardous Applications
FreeWave Technologies has released
its WaveLine 10i, a Class 1 Division
1 (C1D1) certified high performance
wireless I/O networking solution for use
in oil and gas, water/wastewater and in
other industrial settings for applications
in hazardous environments. With a C1D1
certification, operators can achieve a
safe operating environment for a variety
of monitoring applications, including
pressures, temperatures and liquid levels.
In addition, it eliminates the need for
conduit and installation outside of the C1D1 area offering easier, faster and
less expensive installations.
"With a C1D1 certification, the WaveLine 10i is safe for use in hazardous environments," said Glenn Longley, product manager of I/O systems at
FreeWave Technologies. "With the latest addition to FreeWave's wireless
networking solutions portfolio, customers can install our technology at
hazardous locations, such as the oil tanks at production facilities or along
transportation pipelines where explosive gas is normally present. The
integrated rechargeable batteries, which include a solar panel and NEMA
4X enclosure, make for an easy install and hassle-free operation. The
ruggedized package makes the WaveLine 10i appealing even beyond the
C1D1 applications and into industries and locations that do not require such
stringent certifications. The WaveLine 10i is backwards compatible with
existing FreeWave communication networks on short or long distance communication links."
FreeWave's wireless I/O solutions combine remote measurement, remote
control and real-time data communications with reliable and secure wireless
networks. By integrating wireless I/O into small field networks, medium
plant operations and/or large SCADA systems, operators can receive wireless sensor measurements, physical control and communications between
remote controllers from a single device. The WaveLine 10i can pair with a
variety of sensors, providing the ultimate flexibility in allowing customers
to choose the best sensor and wireless communication offering as opposed
to purchasing a packaged solution that often provides subpar sensor and
wireless performance. It also offers an integrated solar power system that
eliminates regular trips to remote locations for battery replacement.
ComNet Introduces Port Configured Self-Managed
Switch with Gbps Uplink
ComNet has introduced a six-port self-managed Ethernet switch, the CNGE2FE4SMS. The
switch has four copper TX ports and two Gigabit
SFP Ethernet ports, This allows the Ethernet
data from the four TX ports to be combined and
uplinked through the Gbps SFP port. This allows
multiple CNGE2FE4SMS units to be daisychained together through the gigabit backbone. It
can support a large number of IP cameras depending on the selected camera's bit rate. The Gigabit
uplink capability can handle a larger number of
cameras as compared to the company's other
SMS products.
The CNGE2FE4SMS offers management
without the cost or user knowledge required for
a managed switch. This port-configured Ethernet switch allows the user to
create a virtual VLAN that manages the Ethernet data being transported,
thereby preventing network flooding. The CNGE2FE4SMS is pre-programmed and meets the IEEE 802.1x VLAN management standard. The
two optical ports are designed to forward the data from the four electrical
ports to the next switch, to a PC, or another Ethernet connection.
The CNGE2FE4SMS uses SFPs for fiber type, connector type and distance. The CNGE2FE4SMS is a cost-effective and easy way to add IP Video
to a network and is designed for use in harsh environmental applications.
Cummins Power Generation Introduces Web-based
System for Remote Monitoring of Backup Power Systems
The PowerCommand 500/550 Remote Monitoring System from Cummins Power Generation provides a Web-based means of remotely monitoring and controlling on-site generator sets, transfer switches, sensors and
output controls from any PC or Mac computer. Multiple authorized users
can now remotely determine the status of annunciators, alternators, engines,
and transfer switches from anywhere. With the PowerCommand system,
users can remotely start and stop generators, start and stop transfer switch
tests, and reset and acknowledge faults.
Designed for a range of on-site power applications, the system is available in two levels of capability. The PowerCommand 500 remote monitoring system is capable of monitoring and controlling two devices, such as
one generator set and one transfer switch. The PowerCommand 550 is
capable of monitoring and controlling up to 12 on-site devices. Both remote
monitoring systems are compatible with power generation equipment from
Cummins Power Generation as well as third-party manufacturers.
The PowerCommand 500/550 is also capable of notifying users of
power system events when they happen, via email or text. The device also
collects and stores data in system and device data logs for later detailed
analysis. Data logging capability can be expanded by inserting either a USB
memory device or SD card into the unit. The PowerCommand 550 model
allows users to freely export this data to other devices.
The remote monitoring system's Web-based graphical interface is easy
to navigate. When viewed remotely via computer, the monitoring home
page displays system status and device status, along with graphing capabilities that provide an overview of the power system. Within each configured
generator set, there are icons for displaying fault, run and communication
status. Within each configured transfer switch, there are icons that display
fault, switch position, source availability and communication status. The
home page also allows the user to create graphs for a particular device by
selecting a parameter and a pre-configured duration.
The PowerCommand 500/550 communicates using Modbus RTU communication protocol through two RS485 channels on the device. All Cummins Power Generation generator set controls using Modbus can be directly
connected, while Cummins' generator set and transfer switch controls using
PowerCommand LonWorks can communicate via a PowerCommand ModLon II Gateway LonWorks to Modbus converter.
