These individuals were true innovators who dedicated their lifelong careers to advancing plastics innovation," adds gardiner. "Their contributions and extraordinary accomplishments will forever carry on in the history of the industry and in their memory." The 2014 posthumous inductees were: * Dr. Robert L. Banks and Dr. John P. Hogan: Hogan and Banks's ground-breaking discovery of crystalline polypropylene on June 5, 1951, led to the development of a new catalytic process for making high-density polyethylene and launched a new family of polyolefin plastics that included both the polypropylenes and polyethylenes. * * Dr. Ernest C. Bernhardt: Bernhardt was a champion for the use and application of plastics in all areas of plastics engineering. He contributed to a number of globally known companies, including BASF and DuPont. He also wrote and contributed to a number of publications on the advancement of the plastics industry. Frederick N. Biesecker: Biesecker was one of the early pioneers in the plastic bottle industry and a visionary entrepreneur who, along with his wife, started Drug Plastics and glass Company from humble beginnings to become a world recognized healthcare company. * Willi Müller: Müller devoted more than 60 years to the plastics industry, beginning as a tool and die maker. He started W. Müller Kg where he developed industrychanging extrusion heads for blow molding systems. * Hans Reifenhäuser: Reifenhäuser, with his entrepreneurial spirit, developed the Reifenhäuser extruder, further vaulting his company upwards and introducing new trends into the growth of the extrusion field. The name Reifenhäuser soon gained worldwide prominence and became synonymous with high-quality extrusion machinery. SPI Accepting Nominations for Living Persons to be Inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame nominations are now open for living individuals to be inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame. To be eligible, nominations must be submitted no later than Sept. 26, 2014. SPI administers the nominating process on behalf of The Plastics Academy, whose officials make up the initial screening committee. The induction ceremony will take place March 22, 2015, at a reception held on the eve of SPI's nPE2015 trade show and conference, slated for March 23-27, in Orlando, Florida. "Election into the Plastics Hall of Fame is the greatest honor bestowed on individuals in our industry.
