Passionate Calling Now McDougall found himself in uncharted waters. His previous running exploits had always been limited by his own legs. Injury free, he wondered, how far could he go? Once again, he sought the answer in the Copper Canyons, returning with his coach in an attempt to match the Tarahumarans stride for stride in a 50-mile ultra-marathon. Suffering Ironically, McDougall’s newfound stride – the same one he now praised for delivering the promise of pain-free running – was nearly his undoing. Surrounded by the Tarahumara and encouraged by his own fresh legs, McDougall made the rookie mistake of going out too fast. Though he was initially thrilled to pass the 26.2 mile mark with a new marathon record for himself, he was also aware that the race was barely half-way over. Ultra-running pain is vastly different from the sharp acute discomfort that accompanies injury. It was an all-consuming pain, one that asked him to please just stop. But McDougall recognized the difference in this new pain, and asked himself, “Am I really hurt or is it an excuse to give up?” Saturday, June 13th & Sunday, June 14th The Keuka Arts Festival is a fine art and skilled craft show that is held annually at the Penn Yan Boat Launch along the Keuka Lake Outlet Trail, only a few blocks from downtown Penn Yan. The event is free and will feature live entertainment and activities for families. Date and Time: Saturday, June 13th, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 14th, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artists: For 2009, the festival expects 40 vendors that include categories such as painting, photography, pottery, jewelry and more. Food & Wine: Local restaurants and wineries will offer an array of culinary delights. Entertainment: A variety of live music will fill the air throughout the festival. The entertainment line-up will be announced at the end of May. Parking: The premises have plenty of parking and are handicap accessible. The festival will go on rain or shine.
