Thomson's ViBE 4K
French Open Success
FRA: Thomson Video Networks'
ViBE 4K HEVC encoder successfully
enabled live 4K streaming of
the 2015 French Open tennis
championship. The real-time
encoding solution offers live
compression of UHD sources at
up to 60fps and in 10-bit colour
for UHD broadcasting. At the
French Open, France Televisions
in partnership with FRANSAT, the
French DTH platform operated
by Eutelsat, used the ViBE 4K to
broadcast live UHD pictures in
H.265 format on Francetvsport
Ultra HD.

USA: Avid has announced that
leading sound companies around
the world are embracing the
recently announced VENUE | S6L
live sound system, with significant
orders already placed ahead of its
formal shipping date.
Sound Image (USA), Spectrum
Sound (USA), Solotech (Canada),
SSE (UK), Sunphonix (Japan),
Johnson Audio Services (Australia),
and
others
are
expecting
"significant customer demand"
for the system. Avid says that
the system offers unprecedented
processing and flexible modularity
to meet the requirements of any
live production.

successful installation of Q-Sys
at last year's Farnborough
International Airshow, we thought
we could bring the audio at
Badminton into the digital age as
well."
Supplied by Shure Distribution UK,
the Q-Sys system was used for the
PA around the 1500-acre site.

Gearhouse Fires Up HD9
Hybrid Supertruck

earhouse Broadcast, has launched
its HD9 supertruck from the
Australian arm of its business.
HD9, the country's first multipurpose and hybrid OB truck, will
be used for the 2015 V8 Supercar
coverage by V8 Media who required
an on-site facility to deliver a high-end
multi-camera production facilities.
Requiring both RF and on-board
camera systems and on-air graphics
solutions, HD9 was built to provide
a state-of-the-art production facility
for Fox Sports. It's also been set up to
integrate fully with the broadcaster's
existing HD5 supertruck.
Among the technical workflows,
HD9's scalable work area gives space

to operators and technicians
who have previously been
out-boarded into multiple site
sheds, allowing crews to work
together in the same facility.
The truck incorporates Sony
MVS7000X VMU switchers,
Lawo MC56 audio consoles,
Riedel communications and
Miranda NV hybrid routing
matrices.
As a fully standalone OB facility,
HD9 is capable of managing 14
cameras with four eight-channel EVS
XT3 replay servers and associated
hardware. It can also house facilities
to deploy up to 18 wireless camera
systems, 16 combined and filtered

UHF communications bases and 12
channels of wireless microphone and
IFB equipment.
The inclusion of nine Viz Engine
graphics systems from Vizrt makes
HD9 an incredibly powerful live
production facility.

BeckTV Builds University
Video Control Rooms

eckTV has designed and built two
brand-new video control rooms for
Mizzou Athletics at the University of
Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.
The
control
rooms
support
scoreboard video production and live
campus-wide production of collegiate
sports events for broadcast on the

university's athletic conference cable
channel and for streaming via the
conference's online platform.
"The initial plan for this project was
to create a single control room that
would support digital production for
our conference streaming service,
but BeckTV helped us to achieve
much more than that," said Stan
Silvey, Assistant Athletic Director,
Broadcast Operations, for Mizzou
Athletics.
BeckTV
provided
Mizzou
Athletics with facilities capable of
providing production for venues
across the campus.
The company took advantage
of newly laid fibre-optic cabling
to connect the control rooms

to the facilities hosting volleyball,
gymnastics,
wrestling,
baseball,
softball, football, track and field, and
soccer.
With the resulting installation,
Mizzou Athletics is able to produce
high-quality sports programming
and coverage in-house, maintaining
creative control while eliminating the
need for outside production personnel
and associated costs.
Equipment was used for this project
included an Evertz router, multiview
processing, and support gear;
Panasonic cameras; Ross production
switchers and Xpression graphics;
Abekas Mira replay units; Click Effects
CrossFire; a Yamaha mixer; and AJA
support gear.
