unIt 5: Mock Job IntervIew Reflection Is it easy or hard for you to speak about yourself to someone you barely know? If easy, what do you like about meeting new people in professional situations? If hard, what makes it hard for you and what do you think you could do to feel more comfortable speaking up for yourself to others? LESSON EXTENSIONS * Have two student volunteers get up in front of the class to role-play a job interview situation. instruct the rest of the class to yell out " freeze! " if either of the " characters " does something unprofessional. the actors must freeze and someone else must come " on stage " and take over the part that she/he felt was unprofessional. the new actor will then continue the scene from the same spot, but making the changes she/he feels make the situation more professional. * Have students act out an imaginary job interview for a historical person or a character from literature. for example, pretend you are barack obama and you're being interviewed for the position of President. or pretend you are boo radley and you're being interviewed for the position of neighborhood Watch Coordinator. * Have students assemble a book of interview " horror stories. " What are some awful things that have happened during an interview (realizing your fly is open, calling the interviewer by the wrong name, being asked an impossible question, etc.)? * Using Youtube or another internet video sharing site and a projector, show students clips from a variety of different talk shows. then, have them evaluate the guests for professionalism or compare and contrast the interview styles of the different hosts.
