Independent Work What I Want: Job Criteria - have students fill in this chart independently to focus their job search on only the positions that meet their criteria. LESSON EXTENSION Create Your Own Job description - instruct students to create a job description for their dream opportunity for this summer. this job description should satisfy each student's interests and utilize the skills and experience listed on his/her resume. students should model their original job descriptions on those given in the Warm-up, or on those they find during their job search. IDENTIFY SOURCES OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE JOB YOU WANT Whole Group discussion Where to Look - lead a discussion in which students discuss the pros and cons of the different sources of information about jobs given here. each individual student should check the " Check it out - Yes or no? " column for themselves, based on the discussion. COMPUTER TROUBLE? Bring local newspapers into class for students to use instead of accessing the internet. also check out the guidance office or local community centers for information on internships, gap year programs, service learning opportunities, and other alternative informal educational opportunities. LESSON EXTENSION use class time to conduct an online job search.
