UNIT 1: PLAN UNIT 1: PLAN OVERVIEW STUDENT HANDOUT In this introductory unit, students work together to create a culture of cooperation and a sense of urgency in this class. Students identify their ultimate, long-term, and intermediate goals, articulate a postsecondary plan based on career goals, and create a College List which includes schools and programs to help them meet their goals. Additionally, students create a Senior Year Plan which states academic (and later, personal) goals for improvement to meet before June. RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT IN CURRICULUM August through September. This unit is designed to begin the school year and set the context for the work to come. This unit can be abbreviated and modified (lengthened or shortened) to accommodate your students and their needs. DEADLINE ALERT * Most college application deadlines range from November 30th through January 15th. Help students stay on top of their individual deadlines. * Students taking the SAT/ACT after December will not have their scores in time for the fall application deadlines. Encourage students to register for and take these tests before December. DURATION 4 weeks lessons Lesson 1: Your Personal Mission Statement - Students will write a personal mission statement summarizing their ultimate goals and action steps. Lesson 2: Your Postsecondary Plan - Students will create a postsecondary plan which identifies the path they will take after high school graduation. Lesson 3: Your Academic Goals - Students will create an action plan for meeting their academic goals this year. Lesson 4: Your College List - Students will create a list of schools or programs to apply to based on their personal criteria.
