UNIT 5: ADAPT OVERVIEW STUDENT HANDOUT In this unit, students develop an understanding of the complex issues and challenges facing them as they adapt to life after high school. Transition skills, strategies, and resources are explicitly taught and practiced throughout. The unit culminates in a student-driven research project and presentation. RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT IN CURRICULUM Late February through May 1st. This unit is designed to occur before students hear back from colleges or have to make a decision about which college to attend. DEADLINE ALERT: * Submit the FAFSA as soon as possible to maximize the award package. * Colleges must send their admissions decisions no later than April 1st. * Intent to Enroll and deposit must be mailed no later than May 1st, and sometimes earlier! DURATION 6 weeks lessons Lesson 20: Beginning Your Career Path - Students will conduct a job search and apply for an entry-level position on their career path for the summer or fall. Lesson 21: College-Level Academic Excellence - Students will create a personalized study plan. Lesson 22: Self-Care and Stress Management - Students will apply self-care and stress management strategies to a personal scenario. Lesson 23: Managing Your Time - Students will revise their daily and weekly schedule to improve their time management. Lesson 24: Resolving Conflicts - Students will apply conflict resolution strategies to a conflict of personal significance. Lesson 25: Research and Transition Skills - Students will present on a transition issue of their choice.
