Have them print out several copies of their resume; they will need them later in the semester. cOMPUTER TROUBlE? Consider using a word processing program such as microsoft Word to create resumes off-line. Online tools like Canva.com also offer several resume templates that students can build from. students can use a " resume Wizard " or simply type their resumes without any fancy formatting. If you have no computer access at all, have students handwrite their resumes and turn them in to you for assessment. They will have to be responsible for typing and printing their resumes on their own using a home computer or local computer lab. LESSON EXTENSIONS Time for a Resume Peer Review or whole class Resume Workshop session to revise, proofread, and edit resumes collaboratively. see lesson 8 for ideas on how to structure peer reviews and workshops. Resume Expert Workshop - organize a resume workshop for students. Invite an expert from your high school counseling office, career services office, or other professionals from local colleges or resource center to guide your students through the resume-writing process. make sure students bring a draft resume to the workshop. RESUMES AND REFERENCES: SUMMARIZING YOUR STRENGTHS Summary Congratulate students on completing their resumes. Tell them that resumes are an important document that they will use for the rest of their careers. This first resume is a great start; as they graduate and move on in their postsecondary plans, their resumes will change and evolve. The experiences and activities that are important today will slowly be replaced by new and exciting opportunities. Close the class by informing students that they are required to speak with their three recommenders before the end of the month. They may use the sample script as an inspiration for beginning the conversation. lESSON EXTENSION Resume Binder - After students have finished polishing their resumes, have each bring a final copy to class. Instruct students to work together to make an all-class resume binder for your high school counseling office. Counselors can keep this resource on hand to distribute students' resumes to partner companies or scholarship providers.
