Let students know that being aware of their learning style is a powerful way to impact their high school academic success. To sum up their learning for the unit, they will create a project to demonstrate everything they've learned about themselves and their learning style. They will be able to choose what type of project they want to create, based on their learning style. Students may choose one of the following, based on their learning style and preference: * Written report * Poster * Skit * newsletter * Brochure * YouTube video * Collage * Performance * Website All groups will do an oral presentation in addition to the project they choose. Articulate your expectations for student work by passing out and reviewing the rubric. You can also use the " Study Strategies for Lazy Learners " as an exemplar of a fake learning style. Students can model their project after this format, or use one of the other options based on their learning style and preference. Projects will include three suggestions for: * Group Work * homework * Test-taking Additionally, projects must share: * A description of why their learning style is special, and at least three strengths and three weaknesses of their learning style * A picture of an ideal study environment (or a physical manifestation if students are doing a skit or a video) * A list of at least three Web resources students can use to help with homework and projects. DIFFERENTIATION SUGGESTION Give additional class time for group work, or assign the project for homework. For English Language Learners: Encourage each small group to determine a strategy that complies with their learning style and language skill level (e.g., if auditory, say things out loud to themselves in Spanish and then in English while studying). collaborative activity: project work time (10-60 minutes) oBjectiVe: STUdEnTS WILL CREATE ThEIR PRoJECT In SmALL GRoUPS. Each group should meet to choose their project type and complete the group Work plan in the handout. Ask students to sketch out a draft of their study skills strategies project in the space provided.
