Ask your class to break up into teams of five. Each student will need a piece of scrap paper. Once students have moved, have them divide their piece of scrap paper into five equal-sized boxes. then, have them copy the powerful paragraph outline into the boxes. * Box 1: Beginning * Box 2: 1st detail * Box 3: 2nd detail * Box 4: 3rd detail * Box 5: End Students will write a story in their groups without speaking to one another. follow this procedure: * Ask each student to write the beginning of a story in the first box. they can write anything here. * When everyone is done, have them pass their paper to the right within their group. now, they should read the beginning of the story and in Box 2 silently write a detail to continue the story. * pass the paper to the right again. now they will write in Box 3 to continue the story with another detail. * pass again and write in Box 4. * finally, pass the paper again. it should by now have reached its original author. the author should write an ending in Box 5. Ask for volunteers from the small groups to share their stories. You may ask the class: * did your story end the way you expected it to?
