- BUILDING FOR GENERATIONS -
While many empty nesters nearing retirement
ultimately opt to downsize or upgrade their
living space by building new or relocating to a
newer home, many others are unwilling to give
up the home they love. And when that home is
also in a great location, nestled in a beautifully
established and quiet neighborhood, why would
they want to move? While their home would
need extensive updates to their second floor
living space, the homeowners in this edition's
cover story came to that same conclusion-they
stayed put!
In previous years, the homeowners completed
a first floor renovation project that included
a major kitchen makeover but didn't address
anything on the second floor which consisted of
the owner's suite (bedroom, bath, and walk-in
closets) as well as two other baths and an office.
Calling on a trusted (but now retired) builder
that they used previously, they were referred to
the award-winning Lancaster-based builder and
remodeler, TK Building & Design. That referral
proved to be a great match as the homeowners
were immediately impressed with TK's listening
skills and creative suggestions, as well as their
overall professionalism. As you'll learn in the
article, the homeowners were especially impressed
with TK's design ideas-many of which
were incorporated into the final plans. You'll also
learn that the homeowners couldn't be happier
with the final results.

Encounters offers some great advice for ensuring
that your kitchen remodel includes both
functional and attractive lighting, while Mervin
Zimmerman has some words of wisdom for
homeowners who are unsure whether to repair
or replace an aging heating or air cooling system.
In THE GALLERY are two very attractive photo
spreads. The first from Kreider Canvas Services,
showcases a variety of awning and canopy applications
while the second, submitted by Heritage
Design Interiors, features window treatments
and home dècor selections from a recent home
makeover project.
