In this issue...
Our cover story in this edition showcases a
dramatic restoration of a 1789 stone farmhouse
along with the construction of two beautiful,
seamless additions. Added to the historic farmhouse
was a spacious sunroom, followed by the
main event-a 2-story addition that enabled the
homeowners to fully realize their dream home.
Both additions were designed and built by the
Leola-based, home builder and remodeler LH
Construction (LHC).
Included in the main addition is a new kitchen,
pantry, dining area, great room, outdoor entry
way and foyer. On the second floor is a spacious
master suite (bedroom, bath, walk-in closet),
a full-sized laundry room, as well as a sleeping
porch off the bedroom. In addition to occasional
naps, it was reported that the porch is a favorite
spot for morning coffee.
As you'll learn starting on page 24, the homeowners
didn't rush into either addition. Although
they purchased their dream property in 1992,
it took them close to 30 years to decide what
they wanted to do about their home expansion.
With the assistance of Kent Nolt, owner of
LHC and his design team, plans were developed
that beautifully meshed both new additions to
the architecture and trim details of the original
farmhouse-critical requirements demanded by
the homeowners.
Our FEATURE article, submitted by Leigh Leon,

addresses trends that are shaping today's kitchen
design. In addition to being a great read for
anyone contemplating a kitchen remodel, the
