MAX LAZAR LAZAR
2024 R-Phil, Max Lazar began the season with Double-A Reading. Little
did he know that four months later, he would make his Major League
debut. The 25-year-old right-hander was drafted by the Milwaukee
Brewers in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB draft. The Coral Springs,
Florida native spent the first six years (ROK-AA) of his professional
career in the Brewers organization before electing free agency and signing
a minor league contract with the Phillies on December 8, 2023.
In Lazar's eight appearances with Reading, he did not allow a run
through 10.1 innings, posting a 0.29 WHIP. The opposition hit just .088
against him. He was promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on May 8, and
posted a 2.40 ERA with 35 strikeouts, and allowed just eight runs in 26
games (30 IP). These stellar numbers did not go unnoticed, as the Phillies
selected his contract on August 9, 2024. The right-hander joined the
Phillies at a crucial point of the season, with their bullpen struggling to
find consistency in the second-half. Lazar has appeared in six games
thus far, and has yet to allow a run through 5.2 innings of relief. He recorded
his first MLB strikeout against Joc Pederson on August 10.
