Business award recipient!
Congratulations to the 2022 Ethics in Business Award Recipient!
Powerful thoughts from the final nominees
EGStoltzfus is a full-service construction company with
headquarters in Lancaster. They are a second-generation,
family-owned business serving the southcentral Pennsylvania
region that specializes in the design and construction of
neighborhood homes and communities, custom homes,
residential remodeling, and commercial construction.
EGStoltzfus received the award at Samaritan Counseling
Center's 15th annual banquet on Thursday, July 21, at
Lancaster Country Club. Other fi nal nominee companies
included Evolution Power Yoga, Joyland Roofi ng, and
Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse.
Andy Dula, president of the company, accepted the
award and shared remarks about the importance of humility
as a company -- even when they are successful. Andy added
that the company still strives today to follow founder E.G.
Stoltzfus's mission of customer fi rst, employee second and
profi tability last.
The Ethics in Business program was created to honor local
companies and organizations committed to ethical business
practices with integrity, fairness and justice, transparency,
life-enhancement and stewardship. The program provides
a comprehensive ethics audit of companies by including
the review of documents such as fi nancial statements and
employee handbooks; the administration of an anonymous
employee survey about the company's approach to ethics; and
a half-day site visit from trained site visitors.
During the event, representatives from fi nal nominee
companies participated in a question-and-answer session
facilitated by emcee Diane Dayton of LCTV 66. Questions
asked focused on the practical ways companies have
implemented ethics in their organization, challenges they've
had, etc.
In his responses, Andy Dula of EGStoltzfus discussed the
importance of practicing moderation, having the leadership
team model ethics for their employees, and the necessity of
cultivating a culture where it's OK to disclose mistakes.
Lisa Taylor, owner of Evolution Power Yoga, emphasized
the need to defi ne and share ethical practices and behavior
when emotions are not running high, as well as the power
of seeking out each other's differences in order to better
understand one another.
John Esh, president of Joyland Roofi ng, talked about how
to be proactive and address issues with employees as they
come up, creating safety measures to protect employees, and
how Joyland empowers employees to be honest with clients
when a client may not even need roofi ng services.
Todd Smith of Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse shared
the need to have a motive other than profi t for running
your business, which for Zoetropolis, he said, is their people
and their customers. He also discussed the importance of
protecting staff members and stepping in when customers may
be out of line.
The insights and expertise shared by all members of the
panel showcased each company's commitment to ethics
and the community as a whole, and we are grateful for their
participation in this year's program.
