AI-enabled ASIC
The OAX8000 AI-enabled, automotive application-specific
integrated circuit (ASIC) from
OmniVision Technologies
(Santa Clara, Calif.) is optimized
for entry-level, standalone driver monitoring systems (DMS). The OAX8000 uses a stackeddie architecture to provide what OmniVision claims is the industry's only DMS processor with on-chip DDR3 SDRAM
memory (1GB). According to the company, it also is the only
dedicated DMS processor to integrate a neural processing unit
(NPU) and image signal processor (ISP), which provides dedicated processing speeds up to 1.1 trillion operations per second for eye gaze and eye tracking algorithms. These fast-processing speeds with 1K MAC of convolutional neural network
(CNN) acceleration, along with integrated SDRAM, enable the
lowest power consumption available for DMS systems - the
OAX8000 and OmniVision automotive image sensor consume
1 watt in typical conditions, combined.

Polyplastics' (Tokyo, Japan)
DURANEX PBT and DURAFIDE PPS
materials - targeted for sensors in
radar and camera bracket systems
used in Advanced Driver-Assistance
Systems (ADAS) - exhibit promise
in delivering low warpage, dimensional stability and low dielectric constant. To meet cost challenges, manufacturers have started to incorporate PBT into
their designs. Polyplastics claims that water absorption has
little effect on DURAFIDE PPS 1140A6, but some impact on
DURANEX PBT 330HR. As a result, Polyplastics is working on
the development of new PBT grades with enhanced low-dielectric properties and low water absorption. For the radar bracket
itself, electromagnetic wave-shielding properties are needed to
protect against unnecessary reflected waves. Polyplastics' electrically conductive grades, DURACON POM CH-10 and EB-10,
and DURANEX PBT 7300E, are being actively considered while
new PBT grades with stronger electromagnetic wave-shielding
properties are under development.

GVC1001's target applications include 360° situational awareness, autonomous vehicles, EO/IR processing and Degraded
Visual Environments (DVE), as well as display processing and
moving maps. This high performance computer features dual
10GigE ports for gigabit Ethernet camera or other sensor inputs. These can be used standalone or can be partnered with
Abaco's 24-port gigabit Ethernet switch, the RES3000 for
GigE camera or other sensor aggregation.
