The usual suspects-University of Michigan and RIT- take home first
place in the two Baja SAE on-track competitions in hybrid season.
HELD ON OFF-ROAD COURSES IN DIFFERENT STATES, this year's two
Validation Events consisted of five timed, on-track events designed to push
the various physical capabilities of the teams' vehicles to their limits.
Capping each Validation Event was an Endurance Event in which drivers
attempted to complete as many laps as possible, as fast as possible, in a
four-hour period. It's the event in which the most points can be
accumulated.
" The Baja SAE teams that competed this years had a wider range of
adversity to overcome than in previous year, " Baja SAE technical inspection
organizer Jason Rounds told MOMENTUM. " Even with this adversity, the cars
that came to technical inspection were at a higher level than seen in recent
years. The first team that stood out from the crowd this year was Harding
University, whch brought two cars-one of them finishing in the top 5 in
Arizona. Another team that really stood out was RIT. That team finished first
in Arizona and second in Kentucky, but still dedicated time to help many
other teams get through technical inspection.
Baja SAE 2021 included a Knowledge Event for teams that, because of
COVID, were unable to bring their cars to competition. All Baja teams were
judged in the three scoring categories of sales presentation, cost, and
design, but the Validation teams were also scored in dynamic events.
