PRODUCT GUIDE
ELECTRONICS
Interoperable
self-driving stack
The Embark Universal Interface (EUI) is a
set of standardized self-driving components
and the flexible interfaces necessary
for truck OEMs to integrate Embark's
(San Francisco, Calif.) autonomous technology
more
easily and robustly
onto their
vehicle platforms.
The EUI
achieves its universality
through
a two-part design. Part one consists of a
standardized components package - sensors
and compute system - that has been
determined through thousands of hours
of design, testing, and analysis. Between
these standardized components and the
truck is part two of the EUI design, a set
of physical, electrical, and software interfaces
that enable the standardized components
package to connect to and communicate
with any OEM platform's steering,
braking, throttle, telematics, power,
chassis, and HVAC. At the center of the
interface package is the Embark Gateway,
an automotive-grade ECU that enables
API communication between Embark's
technology and any OEM platform.

Inductive position sensor
Renesas Electronics Corp.'s (Tokyo,
Japan) magnet-free IPS2550 inductive
position sensor offers total stray field immunity
and reduced weight and form
factor. The sensor is suitable for use as an
absolute position sensor for high-speed
motor commutation in passenger cars,
heavy-duty commercial and off-road vehicles
as well as motorbikes. With its optimized
bill-of-materials, the new sensor
allows customers to cost effectively tailor
sensor design for their applications and
maximize the performance of the sensor's
accuracy. Based on
Renesas' inductive
position sensing
technology, the
magnet-free
IPS2550 delivers

speeds up to 600 krpm (electrical) and is
designed around the motor, accommodating
both off-axis (through shaft and
side shaft) and on-axis positioning.
AEC-Q100 qualified with stable operation
in harsh environments and -40 to +160°C
(-40 to +320°F) ambient temperatures.

Inertial measurement units
KVH Industries, Inc.'s (Middletown, R.I.)
P-1750 IMU and P-1725 IMU complement
previously-released P-1775 IMU and create
a full line of IMUs that feature high-performance
accelerometers and the company's
patented photonic integrated chip (PIC)
technology. Designed to meet the needs
of autonomous technology applications,
the P-series inertial
measurement units
(IMUs) are offered in
the same compact IMU
housing design and
feature more dynamic
and accurate sensor performance. These
features deliver improved navigation capability
and more environmental robustness
in vibration and shock capability for
more challenging applications. KVH's PIC
technology features an integrated planar
optical chip that replaces individual fiber
optic components to simplify production
and increase reliability. The P-1750 IMU is
a versatile high-performance IMU featuring
a choice of 10g or 30g accelerometers
for autonomous and manned platforms.
The P-1725 IMU is a compact, commercial
IMU featuring PIC technology and 10g
accelerometers.

Protocol converters
Axiomatic Technologies (Mississauga,
Ontario, Canada) has added Ethernet
TCP/IP and Modbus TCP/IP networking
functionality to many new controls.
Designed for use on outdoor machines,
Axiomatic controls feature compliance for
harsh environments with surges, load
dump, power transients as well as exposure
to dust, water, humidity, and vibration.
The Protocol
Converter,
AX141810, offers
fast and bidirectional
data exchange
between a CAN network (SAE
J1939), RS-485 bus (Modbus RTU) and
Ethernet (Modbus TCP/IP). The AX142150
Protocol Converter features bidirectional
data exchange between an Ethernet
(Modbus TCP/IP), a RS-422 bus, a RS-485
bus, a RS-232 bus and a CAN network
(SAE J1939). It has Power, Link and Speed
LED indicators. The AX140900 CAN/
Ethernet Converter can be used for CAN
bus monitoring, two-way remote CAN
bus monitoring and synchronization as
well as CAN bus extension over Ethernet
applications. The AX032150 is a rugged
controller with four digital signal inputs,
an Ethernet port and a SAE J1939 port.

High-speed connectors
Amphenol Industrial Operations
(Endicott, N.Y.) has enhanced its Max-M12
connectors to include an X coding, highspeed
connector with support for 10Gb/s
(1000M Ethernet with CAT6 cable) data
transmission and S coding for a safer connection
with First Mate Last Break. These
new connectors are suited for use in the
rail and mass transit (RMT), heavy equipment
vehicles, industrial automation and
robotics markets. Used on RMT door systems
and camera and communication
systems, as well as
on HVAC systems,
the Max-M12 can
transmit highspeed
data in environments
where
there is high vibration, moisture, salt, dirt
and debris. It can also be used for off-road
vehicles, ruggedized factory automation
and robotics signal applications. The
Max-M12 is rated to 4A and can endure
extreme temperatures ranging from -55 to
+125°C (-67 to +257°F). All Max-M12 connectors
have an IP67 rating making them
dust and waterproof.
