MATERIALS & MANUFACTURING
PRODUCT GUIDE
Primerless adhesive/sealant
Simplifying the assembly process,
Henkel's (Rocky Hill, Conn.) new Teroson
Primerless MS 9222 Silane Modified
Polymer Adhesive/Sealant eliminates the
need for an adhesion promotor - simply
apply the adhesive to clean parts and
assemble. Suitable for a wide variety of
work truck applications
and manufacturing applications
that require
high-strength adhesion
of loads to thin walls or
small areas, Teroson MS
9222 provides a variety
of benefits: reclaims
labor, time and floor
space dedicated to the
current adhesion promotor
processes; eliminates
scrap, re-work and defects related
to adhesion promotor errors; and eliminates
the flammability, health, safety,
and VOC (volatile organic compound)
issues related to adhesion promoter carrier
solvent. Teroson MS 9222 is a twopart
fast cure silane modified polymer
(SMP) elastic adhesive optimized for
painted panel assembly that delivers
toughness and durability. It is available in
4:1 ratio 400 ml cartridges, as well as
pails and drums.

Computer-aidedmanufacturing
New
computer-aided-manufacturing
(CAM) technology introduced by
ESPRIT CAM (Camarillo, Calif.), part of
Hexagon's manufacturing intelligence
division, provides manufacturers with
the control and flexibility needed to use
multi-spindle and multi-channel computer-numerical-control
(CNC) machinery
for the machining of long parts.
More accurate simulation of spindle
transfers and bar pulls enables manufacturers
to exploit multi-tasking machinery
with high productivity program
creation of error-free toolpaths. ESPRIT
TNG CAM software now automatically
tracks the location of work offsets regardless
of part position by enabling
programmers to define the offset and
offset translations, or the points at
which offset changes occur. In addition
to enabling precise simulation, this
eliminates the need for custom settings
or calculations to the machine post to
ensure that parts are machined accurately
and makes it possible to program
a greater number of complex machining
scenarios without error. Additional benefits
include for three-axis operations
toolpath creation that is 20 times faster.

Large-format 3D metal printer
The Sapphire XC extra-capacity, largeformat
printer from VELO3D (Campbell,
Calif.) is said
to increase
production
throughput
by 5X and
reduce costper-part
by
up to 75%,
when compared
to the existing Sapphire system.
The company also plans to roll-out
Sapphire Gen 2, which will be a software
and hardware upgrade to the current
system. According to VELO3D, users can
expect an improvement of anywhere
between 10-50% in productivity and
part-cost metrics when compared to the
current Sapphire system. The Sapphire
XC features larger build volume: 600
mm x 550 mm (23.622 in x 21.653 in)
compared to 315 mm x 400 mm (12.402
in x 15.748 in) in Sapphire; higher productivity
for production: 8 lasers x
1,000W each compared to 2 lasers x
1,000W in Sapphire; and an integrated
manufacturing process.

Dielectric film
SABIC's (Houston, Texas) 5-micron
ELCRES HTV150 dielectric film is designed
for high-temperature, high-voltage,
professional-grade capacitor applications,
such as traction inverters for
hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric
vehicles (xEV). This new film, featuring
high-heat performance up to
150°C (302°F), surpasses the temperature
and voltage capabilities of incumbent
products, according to SABIC.
ELCRES
HTV150 film
can help support
the transition
from
conventional
semiconductors based on silicon (Si) to
next-generation, wide-band-gap technologies
based on silicon carbide (SiC),
improving the efficiency of inverter
modules. New ELCRES HTV150 dielectric
film can support the design of highvoltage,
high-temperature DC link power
capacitors that can store large
amounts of electrical energy for long
periods without significant leakage of
current or loss of charge. Based on internal
testing, the film demonstrated a
lifespan of 2000 hours at 500V and
150°C. Furthermore, it is self-healing in
the event of a breakdown caused by
excessive voltage.

3D printable filament
Evonik (Essen, Germany) has developed
a new 3D printable filament based
on PEEK (polyether
ether ketone).
INFINAM
PEEK 9359 F is
high-temperature
and chemicalresistant
ready-to-use material is particularly
suitable for the additive manufacturing
of demanding industrial plastic
parts. The high-performance polymer
can be processed in common extrusion-based
3D printing technologies
such as fused filament fabrication (FFF)
or fused deposition modeling (FDM).
