ARE YOU READY FOR THE CHALLENGES OF AUTOMOTIVE CYBERSECURITY? By: Dr. David Ward - Senior Technical Manager, Functional Safety at HORIBA MIRA Road vehicles, particularly connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) incorporate a high degree of electronics and software, and assurance of the correct behaviour of those systems under both normal and abnormal conditions is paramount. Functional safety activities that defend against potential hardware and software failures have been in place for some time, but increasingly we must consider wider factors of incorrect behaviour including the operating environment and malicious activities. New practices are emerging around the safety of the intended functionality (SOTIF) and cybersecurity. Together, functional safety, cybersecurity and SOTIF are now seen as core attributes of vehicle development.
