Dr. Myra Blanco

As Founder and Director of
Advancement,
Partnerships, and Outreach
at the Virginia Tech
Transportation Institute
(VTTI), Dr. Myra Blanco's job is to expand
opportunities and partnerships internal to
Virginia Tech, as well as externally through
Corporate and Individual Advancement
and Government Relations.
Formally trained in human factors
engineering, her areas of research
expertise include automated driving
systems, distraction, driver behavior,
training, work/rest cycles, fatigue, and
active safety systems for light and heavy
vehicles. She has directed research efforts
in naturalistic, on-road, test track, and
simulator test environments and has
authored numerous publications.
Blanco has recently returned from a
one-year sabbatical at Daimler Trucks
North America and Torc Robotics, where
she served as a Senior Technical Fellow.

collaboration between private industry and
academia/research, " she said. " Growing
and developing new areas of research is
based on developing relationships, the
trust people have in you as a professional,
and acquired knowledge in the field. "

March is Women's Month, and we want to
honor the remarkable women members of
SAE. The Aerotech Digital Summit is also
happening March 9-11. To bring these two
things together, the Membership Team will
be hosting a Chat with the Experts in
Member Connection, led by SAE women
leaders in the aerospace industry March
30-31. Be sure to check into Member
Connection for details and updates.

Become an SAE Industrial Lecturer	
Are you looking to connect with SAE
Student Members and collegiate chapters
and share your expertise with the next
generation of engineers? Then you might
consider volunteering for the Industrial
Lecture Program. Classroom learning and
textbooks aren't quite the same as hearing
about how you apply your knowledge to
the actual job in the industry, and how you
interact with your team and others. Plus,
many students are not aware of the benefit
of remaining an active SAE Member after
graduation, or even how else to become
involved with SAE. In addition to sharing
your industry experience, you can share
your own SAE story. To learn more about
