As a student, Michael Beriswill competed in
the SAE Aero Design East competition in
2003 and 2004. Since the 2014-2015 Aero
Design season, the Mechanical Engineering
Manager at Lockheed Martin helps current
students enjoy the competition by serving
as contest director.
" This role requires coordinating multiple
events and 200+ volunteers to provide the
students a meaningful experience toward
the development of their skill sets, which
will make them leaders in their engineering
careers, " he told Update.
He went on to say that the " character,
leadership, and technical acumen
development I realized as a result of SAE's
Collegiate Design Series challenges during
both of these events influenced the
trajectory of my career.
" I volunteer for SAE Aero Design as a way
to give back to the organization whose
projects did so much to shape the
successes in my career. Volunteering gives
me an opportunity to engage with college
students emerging into industry. Hopefully,
my efforts extend the legacy entrusted to
me by the volunteers in SAE Aero Design
when I was in school. There are current
benefits to volunteering that helps me
maintain a high professional enthusiasm
and continually reinforces the engineering
fundamentals, which helps me stay sharp. "
