GOING ALL IN ON SAE
GIVING COLLEGE STUDENTS A FORUM in which to share their
observations and knowledge about transportation-related
projects via the written word remains
MOMENTUM's prime function. For me as
editor, and hopefully for you as readers, it's
really interesting to view a particular aspect
of someone's life through their first-person
report. So, here's a sincere " thank you " to
the students who contribute articles.
For all employees of SAE Media and its
parent, SAE International, retaining and
recruiting new members is a critical and
complementary function. It's the intent
behind every word in this magazine.

at least appreciate, in the student authors'
compelling stories, which we package in the " Student
Generation " section right in the middle of the magazine. We
see great value in those stories (and we compensate the
students accordingly, 25 cents/word). But the magazine is
embedded with nuggets of potential value from stem to stern.
Some of those nuggets offer direct dollar savings, others
deliver payoff indirectly.
For example, do you know that there are seasoned
professional engineers who are happy, even eager, to share
their knowledge and wisdom with SAE student members oneon-one?
The benefits of making an instant connection to a
seasoned engineer is probably greater than younger folks can
appreciate. You're just going to have to trust us on this. To let a
free mentor opportunity pass by is to throw money out of your
Formula SAE car. Flip to the end of this issue to learn more
about the SAE Mentor Program. Step out of your comfort zone
and connect with a mentor who has nothing but good
intentions for you.
If you are reading this article online, you don't even have to
flip a page to learn about another student member benefit
which, like the SAE Mentor Program, is FREE. In fact, the book
stipend program actually could put dollars into your pocket. All
the details are right there on page 3.
Page 4 is devoted exclusively to ways student members can
derive knowledge and/or dollar benefit from various SAE
activities and opportunities. Click away!
Described on page 5 is SAE Mobilus, the technical resource
platform from which thousands of SAE documents can be
viewed and downloaded.
You get the point, so be sure to check out every page of this
issue.
Beyond the discrete benefits described on these pages,
there is the idea of belonging to a community of the likeminded.
