STUDENT GENERATION
The team from Ecole de Technologie Superieure accepts the award for
second place overall.
The Kettering University driver ready to roll in the Endurance Event.
Gordon noted that only 15 teams qualified this year for the
UNLV Baja Racing's Emma Zeigler, a mechanical engineering major, behind
the wheel and ready for the Acceleration Event. One of three drivers for
the team, she also handled piloting duties for the Sled Pull Event.
Mike Schmidt Award. Placing second behind Michigan Baja
Racing were ETS in second place and RIT in third. Along the
way, Michigan Baja Racing picked up two overall victories, RIT
winning the other.
It's no surprise that the order of finish for the Mike Schmidt
Award was also the order of finish for the Baja SAE Arizona
competition, the last of the three in 2022. Michigan Baja
Racing picked up top ten finishes in eight of the scoring
events, including firsts in both the Endurance Event and the
Acceleration Event, the former being the event in which the
most points are possible.
The University of Nevada Las Vegas team, UNLV SAE Rebel
Racing, was the only one MOMENTUM was able to
communicate with directly in the days following the
competition.
" In Arizona, our team set lots of new records, " the team
wrote in an email message. " We placed top 10 in Cost,
Endurance, Sales, Acceleration, and Suspension/Traction. Our

best events were Cost (1st) and Endurance (3rd).
" Our team was ecstatic but, more importantly, we were
proud of the results we got in Arizona. It showed that all of the
dedication and late nights paid off. Our two previous BAJA
SAE competitions, Tennessee Tech and RIT, went well. In
Tennessee we placed 20th overall, with a 1st place finish in
Cost and 4th place finish in Sales. At RIT, we placed 9th overall,
with a 1st place finish in Cost, a 1st place finish in Sales, and an
8th place finish in Endurance. "
Asked what is most interesting about its car, UNLV SAE
Rebel Racing responded: " The most interesting aspect of our
team's car is our suspension setup. We revolve a lot of the
car's other components and subsystems around it. "
Another second-level team finding great success at Baja
Members of the John Hopkins University team accept the award for second
place in the Design Event.

SAE Arizona was John Hopkins University. Its second place in
the Design Event helped propel " Hopkins Baja " to eighth place
overall. n
