SAE FOUNDATION
Seeking support for STEM
Dan Nicholson, chair of the SAE Foundation Board of
Trustees, took advantage of the SAE Fellows
recognition ceremony at WCX 2022 to plea for
donations.
" I'm not only a proud SAE Fellow; I'm also a very
proud engineer, " Nicolson said. " Like many of you, I've
dedicated my life to automotive engineering, and I
can't imagine any other career
that would have been as
fulfilling, exciting, and
rewarding. "
" In fact, " he continued, " I'm
so passionate about
engineering that I've devoted
years of time and energy (and
money) to the SAE Foundation. One of my great
honors was to serve as the SAE Foundation Chair. It's
where I saw first-hand the tremendous impact that
SAE's STEM education programs make in students'
lives.
What follows are some additional comments from
Nicholson's speech.
" I've heard teachers tell incredibly moving stories
about how SAE's A World In Motion program
increased student attendance rates in their school. In
fact, over the last two years, teachers have told us that
the A World In Motion program was a game changer
for student engagement as they navigated the
incredible challenges brought on by the pandemic.
And, I'll tell you, there is nothing more fun than
seeing a child's face light up with excitement as she
explains to you the optimum gear ratio and torque
needed to get her motorized toy car up a 45 degree
slope.

The real-world experiences
that SAE's STEM programs
provide to students is
unparalleled, and these
experiences are fueled by
donations from people like you
and me to the SAE Foundation.
Technology and the mobility
industry are moving at lightning
speed - faster than any period
during our lifetimes. Young
people need to be fluent in
STEM to secure gainful
employment. And, our
companies cannot achieve our
ambitious goals without skilled
technical talent. " n
