Siemens Digital Industries Software (Plano, Texas) has added
scalable, on-demand, high-performance simulation capabilities
to Siemens Xcelerator as a Service (XaaS) with the
launch of Simcenter Cloud HPC software. The new service is
hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), optimized for
Simcenter solver technologies, and managed by Siemens.
The company claims that Simcenter Cloud HPC (high-performance
computing) is accessible seamlessly from the
desktop simulation tool with no additional configuration
needed. It reportedly provides immediate access to " nearunlimited "
compute capacity, avoiding the complexity and
cost of accessing third-party cloud services. Siemens states
that HPC resources in the cloud allow customers to rapidly
scale up or down as their business requires.

Battery management system
Sensata
Technologies
(Swindon, United
Kingdom) announced
a new
battery management
system, the
Lithium Balance
n3-BMS, for highvoltage
applications. Sensata states that the n3-BMS is suitable
for applications with power up to 1000 volts/2000
amps. The software structure of the n3-BMS reportedly provides
customers with the option to customize the battery
management system with their own code and algorithms
without impacting the ASIL C certification. Additionally, all
safety-critical functionalities of the BMS are in the BSW layer
of the software, so developers are free to implement their
own software code and algorithms in the ESW without any
risk to the ISO 26262 certification.

GEO
Semiconductor
(San Jose, Calif.)
and OmniVision
(Santa Clara,
Calif.) demonstrated
at CES 2023
that they can simultaneously
capture
and process
high-quality color
(RGB) and infrared
(IR) automotive interior video from a single sensor.
Suitable for driver and occupant monitoring, the solution
combines OmniVision's OX05B1S 5MP RGB-IR image sensor
(available in Q1 2023) with GEO's upcoming GW6
Intelligent Camera Video Processor (availability starting
in 2023), which can support the full 5-MP RGB-IR 4x4
pattern of the OX05B1S running at 60 FPS and provide
two unique video streams with high-quality video for
both computer vision and viewing applications. Both provide
advanced ASIL functional safety and AEC-Q100
Grade 2 certification.

Lock box connectors
Royal Power
Solutions (Carol
Stream, Illinois)
is producing
specialized high
power lock box
connectors for
electrified commercial-vehicle
solutions. The company claims that its connectors
can reduce common warranty issues and offer superior
performance over traditional connectors. RPS also states
that the connectors are strong enough to withstand highpressure
water spray and that because the terminals are a
plug-in solution with a smaller footprint, they offer a weight
and size advantage. Unlike traditional male-to-female terminal
connections, these connectors use a unique inverted
contact system that provides improved contact force as the
temperature increases, creating a stronger connection, according
to RPS.
